"the job was completed by 2 men but the fence & gate are not lined up straight; more of a zigzag & gate did not close properly so I had to have someone else redo the gate closure. They did not use a plumb line; just eyeballed it... Luckily it's in my backyard so not many people see it. At least they got the job done quickly right after I moved into my new home & needed a safe place to keep our dogs.

You can seal a concrete slab by cleaning the surface, filling in any cracks, etching the surface, applying a sealer, and letting it dry. Concrete slabs don't typically need sealing, but you can use a topical concrete sealer if you notice signs of water damage. Mix the resurfacer into a sticky mixture. The consistency should look like mashed potatoes. Use a squeegee to push the resurfacer across the pitted area and smoothen the surface with a cement trowel flush. Make sure you protect any expansion joints with a weather strip. Alternatively, cut out any resurfacer that touched the joint once the mixture begins to harden.

While a contractor is on-site repairing your concrete steps, you can have them inspect other concrete surfaces for minor damage. They may be able to fix cracks in your driveway or garage floor during the same visit. You can also ask them to check your home's foundation for minor issues they can address. However, general concrete repair experts typically cannot handle larger jobs, like leveling a sunken foundation. For major structural projects, you will need to hire a structural engineer.

Because it’s faster and uses less materials and energy, resurfacing a driveway is more eco-friendly than replacing it. However, that doesn’t mean it’s always the best option. When deciding between driveway resurfacing vs. replacing, it’s important to consider the age of your driveway and the level of damage. The ideal base for concrete is even, firm, and permeable to encourage drainage. Depending on your project's weight requirements, a combination of gravel, sand, or other aggregates is best. While you can technically pour concrete over grass, dirt, or an old piece of concrete, you risk threatening the concrete's stability.
