"TAZ Construction was able to get me in on short notice and did a wonderful job! The vast majority of hinges are symmetrical, and either side of the hinge can go on the door or the frame. Paint does nothing to minimize the spread of wood rot, so painting an infected door isn’t a good use of your time. Repairs or replacements are still necessary. Otherwise, the rot will continue to spread. Wait until after handling the rot problem before whipping out the paintbrush.

To put your cabinet doors back on the hinges, first align the door with the hinge plates on the cabinet frame. Carefully slide the hinge pins on the door into the hinge cups on the frame, making sure they fit securely. Then, gently push the door into place until it’s flush with the cabinet frame. Finally, close the door to ensure it functions correctly and adjust the hinges if necessary.

There are a few reasons why your door may not be shutting all the way. It could be that the door closer is undersized, hydraulic fluid has leaked, the valve seals are worn out, or the springs are broken. If adjusting your door closer as outlined above does not solve the issue, you may need to replace it completely.

You should generally cut between 1/8-inch and 1 inch when planing a door. If you cut off more than that, you risk damaging the door. Planing too much from the bottom of your door can cause noticeable gaps, so it’s always better to start with as thin of a section as possible and work in thin layers until your door no longer sticks.
