Remediation, on the other hand, involves removing the existing siding, fixing the underlying cause of the damage, and then reapplying stucco siding for that wall. It’s a more permanent fix that takes longer to complete and, hence, comes with a steeper price tag than repair.

The durability and overall longevity of house cladding varies by the material, but the average lifespan is between 15 to 25 years. Metal cladding is generally the most durable and long-lasting, with a life expectancy of up to 100 years. The time required to remove stucco siding depends on the size of the home, the thickness of the stucco, and the complexity of the project. Most projects take between two and seven days, but larger or multi-story homes may require more time, especially if repairs are needed after removal is complete.

The easiest way to remove stucco is to use a circular saw with a diamond blade to cut small squares out, pry them off, and then cut the metal lath behind it with tin snips. It’s possible to do everything with a hammer and a crowbar, but it will take significantly longer and will wear you out more quickly. Plus, you’ll have a higher risk of damaging windows, hidden siding, and sheathing if you go the less precise route.
