"The computer technician, Tammy, was excellent.  He arrived on time and was very personable.  Our computer is several years old and has been running slow, so he cleaned it up for us.  He tried to show us how to perform some maintenance tasks on our own.
After he was finished, he had to call in to the main Geek Choice number to settle the bill.  When I spoke with the person on the phone from Geek Choice, I was astonished when they told me the bill was for $300, which included 2.5 hours service at $100 per hour and a $50 fee for home visit.  I informed her that I had ordered the first hour through Angie's List for $75 and that the home visit fee was waived.  She retrieved my information and charged me a balance of $135, to include the reduced hourly fee of $90 per hour.  So Angie's List saved me almost $100, which I totally appreciate.
I give the technician high marks but the company, Geek Choice, seems like just another corporation trying to make more money off the consumer than they should.  I'm glad I went through Angie's List.

Stereo and Home Theater Systems questions, answered by experts

The cost is influenced by the brand and quality of components, the room size and shape, and installation complexity. Custom systems and advanced professional calibrations are typically more expensive but can provide better sound quality.

For movies, television, and games that feature surround sound output, no other setup than true 5.1 or 7.1 surround is capable of matching the fidelity and presence they offer. If, however, music is your audio priority—or you tend to favor older movies and broadcast television that’s unlikely to include surround sound output—you might be better off putting your money toward two high-quality speakers designed to reproduce stereo sound.

The time required to set up a home theater system can vary. A standard installation often takes between 4 to 8 hours. However, more complex or custom setups, especially those involving intricate wiring or extensive equipment, might take a full day or even extend to 1-2 days to complete.

No, a soundbar is not the same as a true surround sound system. A soundbar is a system with multiple directional speakers that imitates surround sound but does not fully replicate its fidelity and dynamic range. High-end soundbar packages may include a subwoofer and additional speakers to achieve 360-degree sound, making the audio experience closer to true surround sound. However, it will still provide a slightly different audio effect than a dedicated surround sound installation in a home theater.

The best place to put your home theater is a space that does not get outside light, such as a basement. Another consideration is the proximity to bedrooms or offices that may be disturbed by the surround sound playing at high volume. A higher ceiling works best for mounting a projector, so consider space and sound limitations. For help determining the best place for your home theater, consider hiring a professional home theater installer who can provide recommendations and project plans.
