"After having a nightmare of a granite countertop install, I couldn't get the plumbing figured out on my own because the new sinks were so much deeper. After breaking the cleanout plug trying to get it off, it was time to call a plumber. No issue right? Wrong! I tried Angies List, no one would answer or return calls, and the two that did couldn't do it for a week at least. We were without a sink for 4 days already, so we decided to try Home Advisor. With others here doing the same, I called N & J's and they promised me they would get by the same day and fix the issue, that they were going to be in my area anyways. They told me they'd be by at 3, or sooner if they could, but would call me if it changed. I came home from work at 2:58, and they showed up 2 minutes later, right on time. I put the dogs out and let Anthony and his tech in. I showed the problem, showed pictures of the plumbing before, and what I had done already, I also showed them the parts I had picked up from Lowes. I can't say enough good about these guys, they were SUPER friendly, very courteous, and clean. REALLY clean. They not only fixed my problem in under an hour, they leak tested everything, opened it back up if it leaked and fixed it (including the garbage disposal adapter I had installed), tightened everything correctly (again, including water fittings for my faucet, checked the air gap I installed, and tightened the sink drain I installed too), and even used some of the parts I had picked up to save me money. They used some gaskets and parts they had on hand, and were complete professionals, teaching me some stuff during the process. They even used some of the tools I had sitting there when I offered instead of having to head out to the truck to get their own. In the end, it cost me $100, of which I tipped on top of because they were so friendly and helpful, and QUICK. I feel like I have a real plumber I can call on at any time. They cleaned up everything, took out the leftover garbage that I had sitting around, and packed up the extra parts and reciepts for me to return the unused material. I'm leaving Angies List, this company wasn't even shown there!"

"I used Angie's List to look for a plumber and was quite apprehensive based on reading so many negative reviews about how many dishonest plumbers are in Albuquerque. Albuquerque Plumbing, Heating & Cooling called and left a message for me and I called this morning. My toilet wasn't draining, after repeating plunging. Fore Gen Plumbing called and told me their starting price is $129 and I wouldn't find a lower price. They were wrong. Albuquerque Plumbing, Heating & Cooling quoted me $75 for auger service, from the toilet side. The auger didn't work, so the plumber offered $105 drain cleanout service. When the clog was cleared in 5 minutes, he told me the $105 included a 90-day warranty, free reservice if I have any more clogs, leaks, issues. Corey did an outstanding job, very impressed with his professionalism, courtesy, honesty and integrity. Not only did he call ahead, arrived early, he wore a mask and shoe covers."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

Experts use innovative designs and techniques to maximize your space, creating the illusion of size while enhancing functionality.

A bit of water in the bowl can help unclog a toilet, especially if you're using a plunger. However, if the bowl is full to the brim, you'll need to strap on gloves and remove some of the wastewater in a cup or container so it doesn't overflow when you try to unblock the pipe. If you're concerned about it filling further, manually close the flapper in the toilet tank or turn off the water supply to the toilet.

A house has two main water shut-off valves. One water valve location is inside the house. If your home is connected to a municipal water supply, you’ll find it on the perimeter of the house on the side that faces the street. If your home uses well water, that valve could come in from any side. The other main valve is near where your property meets the street.

Yes, most bathrooms can be converted into a wet room, but the process often involves extensive renovations. Key requirements include having proper plumbing and the ability to slope the floor slightly for drainage. The conversion process typically requires removing the existing floors to install drainage, replacing drywall with waterproofed cement backer board, waterproofing the walls, and installing new fixtures to create an open, curbless shower space. A skilled home renovation professional can evaluate your bathroom to determine if it's a suitable candidate. It's also worth considering resale value; if you only have one bathroom, converting it to a wet room might not be ideal as many homebuyers prefer to have at least one bathtub.

Yes, shower water goes into the septic tank. Shower water is a type of greywater, and in fact, all water used in a home with a septic system—including water from sinks, toilets, the dishwasher, and the washing machine—drains into the tank. When shower water enters the tank, debris like soap and hair travels with it. The solid debris sinks to the bottom to become sludge, while soap residue joins the scum layer at the top. The remaining water is treated in the tank before moving to the drain field for further treatment and dispersal. It is important to avoid putting oil or harsh chemicals down any drain, as they can cause clogs or disrupt the beneficial bacteria required for proper wastewater management in the septic system.
