"Called Mike for heater outage, 66⁰F in house in bright sunlight. He was on another job but gave us a time estimate, then revised it to give us an updated arrival. Brought in worn parts to explain what happened, noticed that cooler is missing drain pieces & suggested we call him before using refrigerated AC. Heater is working now, and we are SO GRATEFUL for Mike coming out same-day!"

"He asked that I get the unit myself then call him to install it. This is for a tenant who is four hours away. I needed it taken care of right away. After all I’ve given up on Angie’s List. I’ll find people to hire myself the old fashion way. It’s a shame because I used your company in the past when you serias big. Now you’re just like every other company that wants to automate everything. No, thanks."

"We had Babcock build/move a few walls, move our boiler, and move some electrical so our washing machine/dryer could be moved to another room. There was tile flooring done as well. The initial part of the job was fine. But when the subs were involved, things got out of control. The electrician decided to do some things in our boiler room without running it by us. Then a guy adding our dryer duct work decided to do something we explicitly didn't want done. That was fixed, but the more we looked, the more we saw the subs doing whatever they had to do the job quickly, not cleanly. Here we two years later and I am still finding sub-par work - things that make it look *I* did the job on the fly, not a "professional". Examples - the plumber cut out some copper tubing that was part of a heating zone. Rather than copper it back together, he decided to use PEX on a line whose water gets to 200F, above the rating of PEX. He insulated it, however, so one couldn't readily see what he did. Today, admittedly 2 years later, I go into the roof space and find the electrician installed some junction boxes and decided to leave them on the floor. Very quality job work - definitely show up on the next home inspection. Overall Babcock and brothers seemed fine. They choice and oversight of the subs was poor. If you go with them make sure to spec everything out that the subs will do, otherwise they will do it wrong. Fortunately we had them do a relatively small job before a possible kitchen remodel. Glad we didn't have these subs handle a bigger job that needs quality"

"The job that was performed went exceptionally well. I didn't have a pick-up truck to retrieve the water heater from a local store, he went over to the store and picked it up for me. He removed the old one and installed the new one. He also cleaned up the water that leaked over when emptying the old one. I called Affordable Plumbing in the morning and he was right over with in the hour. He hooked up my water line for the evaporative cooler while he was here. The cost was much less than what I had anticipated, a whole lot less. I'm satisfied and thankful. He's upfront with cost and no hidden fees. I would definitely recommend Art Villalobos for plumbing  needs. I will use his services in the future.

"Jim was in the area here in Nashville, and I spoke with him about my computer. He was extremely knowledgeable about everything computer related, and seemed very familiar with the problems I described having with my computer.  I also had a very old fax machine that I was manually having to scan documents and fax them, over and over again. Sometimes, even the same ones. Jim advised me on what kind of printer to get, as well as what type wireless network to get and even went with me to Staples to purchase the items (That was over and beyond the call of duty in my opinion). I am a business owner for a trucking logistics company, and my computer is my livelihood, so I really trusted that Jim would get my system working, and help me with my scanning and faxing issues.

Jim arrived on time, and got to work right away.  He took the time unbox my printer, set it up for me, he also set up my wireless network, and the entire time he helped me understand exactly what was going on.  He showed me how to set up my wireless, how to make changes to it, he even went through the manual on the printer with me, and showed me how I could scan documents directly to my computer and save them....and then just fax them out all from my computer!  He then started cleaning out some of the toolbars and bad software I had inadvertently installed, then he ran the virus scanner, still showing me how to do it myself, and explaining to me how I could avoid these issues in the future.  I have to say I have never had such excellent customer service from a computer repair person. He removed the viruses, and even offered to put a remote software package on so that if I ever have any problems in the future, he could access my machine remotely, and help me fix them, essentially saving me the cost and time for the future.

I would HIGHLY recommend Jim and North Alabama Technical Services for any and all computer work. Jim was an absolute pleasure to work with, and again, I've never felt so well taken care of with my computer issues before. If I could give him all A+'s I would.  I have seen a recent review that mentions that he takes advantage of businesses, but he only charged me $75 and gave way more than that in service. I really appreciate him for all he did for me.

Plumbing Heating Companies questions, answered by experts

High elevation affects municipal water pressure, while rocky mountain soils complicate excavation for exterior lines. Many properties rely on private wells and septic systems, requiring specialized planning for any drain-side plumbing. Because licensed professionals travel from lower elevations, schedule projects well before seasonal transitions. Avoid planning disruptive work during peak summer or winter tourist seasons if your property generates rental income in NM.

Helpful?

Functional plumbing requires state permits and immediate attention to prevent severe freeze damage during the long cold season in Cloudcroft. Cosmetic work, like replacing a simple faucet, carries no such urgency and avoids permit requirements entirely. Older mountain cabins often feature galvanized pipes under slabs, making functional repairs highly invasive. Schedule your cosmetic upgrades during warmer months when local professionals have better availability.

Helpful?

State inspection requirements for functional plumbing add significant time between rough-in and finish work. Because local supply houses do not exist in Cloudcroft, ordering non-standard fittings for older cabins forces project delays. Winter storms frequently block mountain roads, interrupting multi-day schedules. Hidden pipe corrosion and complex septic system coordination guarantee that most diagnostic repairs require multiple visits from a traveling professional.

Helpful?

A slow drip at a pipe joint after a cold night indicates severe freeze-thaw stress. Discolored water or visible rust signals deteriorating galvanized pipes, requiring whole-system replacement. Multiple slow drains point to a failing septic drain field rather than a simple clog. Persistent moisture around a Cloudcroft cabin foundation reveals hidden leaks that cause structural wood rot. Address these warning signs immediately.

Helpful?

Keep pipe insulation sleeves and thermostatically controlled heat tape ready to protect vulnerable lines from extreme freezing temperatures. Store a main water shutoff wrench to stop catastrophic flooding during an emergency. Maintain a basic drain snake, pipe repair clamps, and plumber tape for temporary fixes. Create a detailed map of pipe locations and shutoff valves for your NM property to ensure rapid response.
