He had to work around some areas of the basement that were partially finished, and do a lot of "fishing" of wires to install light fixtures where we wanted them. Basically, it is nearly impossible to tell that this work wasn't done when the house was built. As mentioned, he was very proactive in suggesting alternatives that saved us money and his initial quote was accurate despite some extra work that wasn't able to be seen prior to beginning the installation. Incidentally, we were referred to Bailey's by a highly trusted custom home builder who uses his services for their own residences. Nowlin was unable to do appropriate drawings to scale for submission. Owner had to take design and translate into scaled drawing for submittal. Nowlin refused to rebate any of the cost paid for the incomplete drawings. Nowlin did not bring in appropriate equipment to do grade work in a timely manner. Construction of retaining wall was not straight or level. Nowlin was unable to professionally measurements and guage grading and drainage. Because the work needed to be coordinated with the construction of a new porch, Nowlin needed to do soil removal and preliminary grading before contractor could build porch. Contractor had to do additional grading that Nowlin would not do to build porch. Nowlin was paid in full for work at completion of preliminary grade work and before retaining wall was completed. At this time the quality of the work on the wall and the issue of drainage was raised, but Nowlin did not address either issues. Owner should have held back a % of the fee at this time. Upon conpletion of porch Nowlin was asked to finish work he was paid in full for. He failed to return to the job and stated that he had completed all the work he was contracted for and would not address any of the issues - stating he put in more time on the job than he had esatimated it would take. I'm sorry if he under estimated the job. He was fired and a different contractor was brought on. The new contractor raised many of the issues stated including that the automatic valve that was installed was in violation of City code. Nowlin neverpulled a permit nor got an inspection. I am now having to pay to have Nowlins mistakes and incomplete work corrected. In a word, perfect! The owner came out personally and measured our installation; it was a patio double door. He presented photo album of their standard doors that was extensive with many attractive options. We settled on one, and gave him a deposit. They custom build all of their doors to my...
Eric was wonderful. The existing undersized gutters we had were causing one side of the building to flood when torrential downpours were overtaxing what was there. They up-sized to a 6" covered gutter system with an additional downspout and replaced a lot of rotten wood. Love the color,...

Treehouse Builders questions, answered by experts
Costs reflect the size of the tree or shrub, the complexity of the task, location accessibility, and disposal needs, and comprehensive quotes vary accordingly.
The ideal depth of a tree notch depends on the tree, but it should usually be between 20% and 25% of the tree’s depth. However, if the tree is leaning towards the direction of the notch, it can be cut more shallowly—at as little as 10% of the depth. When the tree is leaning away from the direction it needs to be felled, you can cut deeper, closer to 30%.
In the case that a tree is growing directly on your property line, the cost of maintaining the tree is shared and is the property of both owners in common. In this case, all decisions regarding the maintenance of the tree must be made jointly, and both parties must agree on a course of action. You will need to agree with your neighbor about the cutting of any roots before you carry it out, and your neighbor must also consult with you before doing any trimming. Coming to an agreement with your neighbor about any shared trees ahead of necessary trimming and maintenance will make this process much simpler.
If you’re planning on keeping the tree, unless the roots are invasive, there’s no need to remove them, as doing so can cause damage to the tree. If the tree has been cut down and the stump and roots are left, grinding and removing the stump can cause root decay for some species. For other species, the stump and roots will need to be removed to prevent pests, disease, and possible tree regrowth.
A few signs a tree may be dead is if the leaves are dead and there are no signs of new blooms. You can also perform a scratch test on some of the branches to check the condition of the cambium layer beneath the bark.
If it is green, it is still alive, but if several are dry, brittle, and brown, the tree may be dying or dead. Always consult an arborist before assuming your tree is dead because you may be able to save it.
