"Our dog broke glass in our front window on a cold, Saturday afternooon in January. I called Glass by Ro and they were at my house in under and hour. Not only did they fix the glass, they took, care of the storm window, which had come off. Their work was immaculate and done with efficiency and care. Highly recommend! I would use them again for any window or glass needs. Fabulous work."

"Steve from Sun control contacted me shortly after my request, gave me a reasonable quote, came and completed the job two days later. Looks great, and solved a sun glare problem in a room frequently used for TV, that had two quarter round windows about 18 ft high with no window treatments. He was professional and neat, and it was great doing business with him. Glad I used Home Advisor to find this business."

"This was the third time we used Therno Seal and again we could not be happier. The two prior times were to replace the windows in the house. The windows are awesome and Aaron will work within your budget. This business is family owned so there aren’t tons of calls and a pressure presentations to buy the top of the line product. Well this time we needed a new roof. I amazed how good this roof looks. It turned out that we needed teardown of the whole roof but that was ok because everything was laid out before hand of what can happen. .Aaron explains everything up front and is always available if you have any questions. When it came to work on the roof the head guy was Bob. He doesn’t just drop off a crew and leave. He stayed the entire time making sure the job was done the right way. The job was done in two days. You can tell Aaron and Bob take great pride in there products. If you want quality and good service give them a call. Working with them is like working with friends. Thanks again guys!! "I used Star Windows and Doors LLC to replace the windows in our home. It was a pleasure to work with them - they were very responsive, and from start to finish the entire process smooth. The windows themselves look beautiful, and the installers did a great job with all the little details! I would recommend Star Windows and Doors LLC."

"Excellent workmanship and products I have had three installations with Power in the past two years. I first used them for a new roof and gutters. The workers were all knowledgeable in their area of work. Clean up was good although some nails kept showing up over time. Next I had the 2nd floor windows and some 1st floor windows replaced, 9 in total. Installation went well and they cleaned up beautifully afterwards. I love the windows! They are a beautiful and energy efficient product. Lastly, I recently had a bay window replaced in my kitchen with the same type window. The workers ere all friendly and explained what would be done. The area was draped with plastic to cut down on dust. Clean up was excellent inside and outside! The window is beautiful and the framing on the outside of the window matches the other windows and the small roof above the bay window was replaced with the same roofing as the rest of the house. I would choose them again for any future projects."

Windows questions, answered by experts

It is generally recommended to remove window screens for the winter, especially in climates with heavy snow, freezing rain, or frigid temperatures. Removing them helps prevent damage to the screen mesh and frames that can be caused by ice and moisture buildup between the screen and the window. Taking out the screens also allows more natural light and warmth into your home during shorter winter days and makes it easier to clean your windows thoroughly. In warmer climates where harsh weather is not a concern, the decision is more about personal preference; some homeowners prefer the clearer view, while others leave them in for convenience.

To keep cold out, look for treatments that sit close to the window frame and are made from thick, insulating materials. Thermal curtains, cellular shades, window quilts, and insulated shutters can all help retain heat. Layering window treatments, like pairing lined curtains with cellular shades, can provide even better insulation by further reducing drafts and heat transfer.

There are many high-quality window companies on the market, although Andersen, Pella, and Marvin continue to be the most popular nationwide. Some brands, like Sunrise and Soft-Lite, are popular regionally but may not be available in all parts of the United States. When comparing brands, look for features like increased energy efficiency, strong and durable materials, and long-lasting and all-encompassing warranties.

The primary benefits of an egress window include providing a safe emergency exit, increasing natural light in a space like a basement, and improving ventilation. Additionally, installing an egress window can often increase your property's value.

Picture windows last about 20 to 50 years, depending on the material, your location, and how well you maintain the windows over the years. Materials like vinyl and aluminum may not last as long, while fiberglass can last many years. Wood will last decades if you keep up with maintenance. Homes in areas with harsh weather throughout the year may cause windows to have shorter lifespans.
