"They work was done efficiently and thoroughly. It seemed as if every detail was covered. The final product delivers steady hot water. We look forward to using it to heat house without a lot of maintenance and expense this winter. We think the cost of changing from oil to gas heat was reasonable and would definitely recommend using Lamco."

"David and his team are always on time and deliver exceptional quality work. I did 3 big projects with them over last 2 years and will hire them again if needed. His estimates are very accurate and he will tell you when the project should be done. I recently had to call them right before 4th of July due to my boiler not firing. He came next day and quickly found the issue (the back draft sensor triggered and had to be reset). He explained why this usually happens and how to reset it myself. He and his crew had a project in my area and due to that didn't charge for this visit. This is the honest plumber I was looking for!"

"I needed to have my hot water heater replaced on an emergent basis (leaking). George responded with urgency, in a professional manner while taking the time to explain the entire process to me from start to finish. I couldnâ t be happier with the final product. Since the hot water heater install, Iâ ve used Olympic and handful of times. I will continue to do so while recommending them to anyone and everyone I know!"

"Anthony and his partner were friendly and professional. After snaking the drain, they detected a small leak in the garbage disposal and worked to figure that out. They tested several more times and went to crawl space and did more snaking. So thorough! And the work is guaranteed. I highly recommend and will use them again 100%!"

Percolation Tests questions, answered by experts

According to the National Cancer Institute, asbestos-related diseases can take anywhere from 10 to 40 years for symptoms to appear. The health risks increase with prolonged and heavier exposure. Risk factors also include:

  • Amount of exposure

  • Chemical makeup, size, and shape of the asbestos fibers

  • Length of time a person is exposed to asbestos

  • Genetic factors

  • Source of exposure (direct exposure or secondhand exposure from someone directly exposed)

Unlike some home problems, such as water damage or pest infestations, asbestos can be very difficult to spot. Asbestos is a mineral in the form of microscopic fibers and was previously used in building materials for its bonding and fireproofing abilities. Insulation, roof shingles, ceiling tiles, floor tiles, pipe wrappings, soundproofing materials, and textured paint features like popcorn ceilings are common sources of asbestos, particularly in homes built before 1980.

Age is perhaps the biggest indicator of asbestos, as legislation passed in the 1970s labeled asbestos as dangerous and regulated its use in building materials. Signs of age in the form of wear and tear or material degradation are also indicators that asbestos fibers may be leaking into the air, but ultimately, it’s difficult to detect with the naked eye. If you have reason to suspect asbestos in your home, it’s best to hire a certified asbestos inspector.

Asbestos itself does not typically leak from a roof. However, if an asbestos-containing roof is damaged or deteriorated, it can release asbestos fibers into the air. This can occur when the roof is disturbed, such as during maintenance or repairs, or due to weathering over time. Exposure to airborne asbestos fibers can be harmful to health, so it is important to address any damaged asbestos roofs promptly and safely.

Mold, VOCs, radon, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter are typically measured.

Asbestos siding can be dangerous, but it doesn't necessarily pose a health risk if it's in good condition and left undisturbed. The danger comes from inhaling asbestos fibers, which can be released if the siding is damaged, deteriorating, crumbling, or disturbed during remodeling or repairs. Exposure to these airborne fibers can cause serious, life-threatening diseases like asbestosis (lung scarring), mesothelioma (an aggressive cancer), and other lung cancers.

If your asbestos siding is intact, the general recommendation is to leave it alone. However, if it's damaged or you plan to renovate, it's crucial to handle it safely. Due to the significant health risks and the difficulty of containing the fibers, it is not recommended to perform any asbestos work yourself. Instead, you should hire a professional asbestos removal company to inspect, repair, encapsulate, or remove the material. The presence of asbestos can also negatively impact your property's value.
