Yes, you can put a GFCI outlet in almost any electrical outlet location. As long as the outlet is wired correctly back to a circuit breaker, you can likely replace the existing outlet with a GFCI outlet.

A 60W LED bulb is likely labeled as “60W replacement” on the package—that’s because it provides about the same light output as a 60W incandescent bulb. In reality, it likely uses less energy—usually 15 watts or less. If that’s the case, then it’s perfectly fine to put a 60W LED bulb in a 40W socket. Your best bet is to read the package carefully. It will tell you the LED bulb’s actual wattage, and as long as it’s lower than the fixture, the bulb will be safe to use.

While you can plug most electrical items into a GFCI outlet, some with stationary motors, which experience a small amount of current leakage, such as vent fans or fluorescent lighting, can cause tripping. For this reason, it’s often best to plug them into a standard outlet. This can also be a problem if the circuit is over 100 feet long. Some appliances, such as hair dryers, have built-in GFCI protection, so connecting them to a standard outlet is fine.

The most common reason a GFCI outlet would trip even when nothing is plugged in is if there’s a problem at the circuit breaker end. This could be an overloaded circuit, with too many appliances plugged into it, or another type of fault. If a GFCI outlet keeps tripping, it can also be because it is faulty and needs replacing.

GFCI outlets should be clearly labeled with LINE and LOAD labels, with arrows leading to the proper terminals. The line terminals are typically at the top, and the load terminals are typically at the bottom.
