"There was a huge, scary dead oak tree on the property we just purchased. Branches have been falling out of it all month. It made me nervous enough to not let the kids in the backyard. "Our oak tree is very large and is located next to our garage and close to our neighbors property so it is not easy to maneuver equipment in that space. There were several dead branches high up that needed to be removed. The elm tree in the front of our house needed branches trimmed that were touching the house. They arrived on time and did an excellent job. They were very careful not to cause any damage to our house, garage and shrubs. They removed all debris and cleaned the entire area. They even removed previously felled dead branches from the roof of our garage. We are extremely happy with their work and would definitely use their services again and recommend them. Our trees look great!"

The ideal depth of a tree notch depends on the tree, but it should usually be between 20% and 25% of the tree’s depth. However, if the tree is leaning towards the direction of the notch, it can be cut more shallowly—at as little as 10% of the depth. When the tree is leaning away from the direction it needs to be felled, you can cut deeper, closer to 30%.

You can trim just one side of the tree, especially when that side is growing near something like a power line or a home. Pros will carefully trim the tree back until it is safe from that structure. While this is common, it also needs to be done with the utmost care, as pruning or trimming away at one side of the tree may make it structurally unsound. This instance is yet another where hiring a pro is wise, especially if power lines are involved.
