"We used A1 Loyalty Construction to fix our siding on one side of our house. Cesar and his team were amazing! Explained every step, worked with us while we replaced windows on that side also and were very professional and attentive. They did a great job taking down our siding and putting everything back up, even power washed that side! Definitely calling them up again once we are ready to do other work along with masonry work. "Skyline Construction Group was a great choice for installing vinyl siding on my house. Zack and his crew were excellent in completing this project. A man who was in the painting business for over 30 years visited his mother across the street remarked to her that the vinyl siding job on my house was done perfectly. i have had other neighbors compliment me on how great the house looks with the vinyl siding. Zack and his crew went the & beyond the extra mile in sprucing up painting areas that needed repainting. Zack was also excellent, and prompt in answering my questions about my vinyl siding installation. Hats off to Skyline Construction Group team. Highly recommend them for your next home improvement project. Sincerely, May Succop"

Siding questions, answered by experts

As stunning and natural as stone siding is, it's not for everyone. Some popular siding alternatives to stone siding include:

  • Aluminum siding

  • Brick veneer siding

  • Engineered wood siding

  • Fiber cement siding

  • Wood siding

  • Vinyl siding

If you want the look of natural stone siding without the high material and installation costs, vinyl siding may be one of the best alternatives. It’s lightweight, low-cost, and low maintenance but does have a lower life span than natural stone.

Vinyl log siding is durable, rot-resistant, colorfast, and scratch-resistant, and it can last for an average of around 30 years. Some vinyl siding can last for up to 60 years with proper maintenance. You won’t need to repaint or restain this type of siding every several years like you would with wood, so ongoing costs and upkeep will be minimal. Although it’s relatively low maintenance, you should still wash your vinyl log siding twice per year. Doing so will increase its longevity, remove any mold, and retain your home’s curb appeal.

Contrary to popular belief, people still do use aluminum siding for their homes—but it’s much less popular than it was in the mid-1900s. The introduction of various types of vinyl siding as an affordable option reduced the demand for aluminum, which is prone to scratching and denting and needs to be repainted every five to 10 years. Given the abundance of house siding options, especially newer and more popular types like stone veneer siding, aluminum siding has simply just fallen out of favor.

Vinyl siding is the cheapest option in terms of upfront costs. The average cost to install vinyl siding is around $12,173, with certain types like vinyl shake, clapboard, or dutch lap costing as little as $2 to $3 per square foot. While vinyl is very low-cost, it may not last as long as natural materials or metal, with a typical lifespan of 20 to 40 years. In contrast, metal siding is more expensive initially but can save you money in the long run due to its longer lifespan, which is often double that of vinyl. It's recommended to consult a siding professional to determine if the lowest-cost option is the best material for your specific home.

Yes, you can install siding over stucco, but it's crucial to ensure the stucco is in good condition first. Before proceeding, inspect the stucco for any signs of damage, leaks, or mold growth. If you discover water damage, mold, or have ongoing leak issues, it's recommended to remove the stucco completely. This step prevents future problems like mold and pest infestations and allows a professional to repair or replace any damaged sheathing underneath. If the stucco is sound, the installation process involves attaching furring strips to the wall's framing directly through the stucco. The new siding is then installed onto these furring strips. A professional may also need to adjust window and door openings to prevent them from being recessed behind the new siding, which can cause aesthetic issues and create potential leak points.
