The Atlantic City Shade Shop is a second generation family-owned and operated business founded in 1947. Located just outside Atlantic City, we have the largest showroom in South Jersey devoted exclusively to every type of window treatment available today. Our approach is very simple: - Offer the highest quality products - From reputable manufacturers - At Competitive Prices - Without high-pressure sales tactics Our salespeople focus is on what is best for our customers in the long term. We value teamwork and cooperation over making a quick sale. Our goal is to build long-term relationships with our customers, who will and have come back again and again as they redecorate or move over the years. We have tried to showcase all the window treatments we carry and services we offer, but it is really an impossible task. Our customers range from individual homeowners to large commercial, governmental, and institutional accounts. Our motto is “No Job is Too Big or Too Small”. Many customers are surprised we gladly offer our free shop-at-home service when all they need is to have one window covered. At the other extreme, we installed an entire massive wall of motorized blackout shades in the new Wildwood Convention Center and have done extensive treatments at the A.C. Medical Center and A.C. Public Schools.

Interior Design and Decorating questions, answered by experts

You may think that adding crown molding will shrink a room, but in fact, it has the opposite effect. The reason crown molding makes a room bigger is that it draws the eyes upward to the ceiling, which gives the impression of a taller wall. Just be careful that you don't crowd the room— if you have a lot of artwork or intricate wallpaper, crown molding may not be a good idea.

Light-colored paneling–like white or ivory–can make a room look larger by extending the visual aspect of a room’s size, like a mirror. Dark-colored paneling–like oak and mahogany–can make a room feel small and closed in. However, for those looking to create a more intimate space, this isn’t necessarily a negative.

Hiring an interior designer is often worth the investment, especially for larger projects beyond DIY interior design and project management skills. However, the decision to hire an interior designer depends on your budget and the size of the project. Some benefits of hiring an interior designer include:

  • Realizing the best layout and decor for optimal functionality of the space for your taste, budget, and lifestyle

  • Managing your project to keep the job on track and within budget

  • Assistance with home staging ahead of home sale

  • Serving as a point of contact for contractors

  • Accessing discounts from local suppliers

Any homeowner can carry out interior decoration themselves, but many struggle to devise a cohesive and appealing design that balances comfort and aesthetics. Interior designers are not only trained in design principles, but they also design home interiors for a living, so they’re much more likely to produce a final product that meets your needs. Hiring a professional can sometimes lead to savings on the materials, as some experts know how to source more affordable decor and furniture via their professional connections.

Costs range from $50 to $200 per hour or $2,000 to $10,000 per project, depending on scope and experience.
