"They repaired our stucco columns and windowsills made of stucco and were great. They do a great job and completed the work with a sense of urgency as well as being smart about deciding the best timings for the job given the rainy weather. We were very happy with the final product."

"This was a great experience. Not only did did he fix my two initial projects of dry rot on exterior base boards, but he also fixed some siding issues I've paid multiple times to fix, but it was never done right. His price was excellent as well. I would highly recommend him. Quality work."

"I needed stucco repair work on an old chimney (and other spots). Grady was meticulous and thoughtful on what approaches and materials would work. Throughout the project they allocated sufficient time for each treatment to cure and inspected the work before proceeding to the next step. Grady started the project with no money down and only required ongoing payments for materials until the project was well underway. The final payment was due only after they did a final inspection. Total project cost was also below other bids."

"Cowan's South Jersey Masonry, LLC, did an excellent job at our house with an old and tall oil burner chimney. The chimney needed to be cleaned with possibly a liner installed. I was told by another service that a brick arch at the top of the chimney would have to be removed to allow this work, and that they would not be able to replace the arch. We wanted to preserve it. I spoke with Mr. Cowan several times and we discussed different options. They were able to clean the chimney from the bottom up and also removed the soot and other accumulation from the base. A pipe from the furnace into the chimney had to be removed. They left the work areas very clean. On the exterior of the chimney they applied a sealant to protect the bricks from further weather damage. In the future, a liner can be installed from the bottom of the chimney which would leave the exterior appearance of the chimney in its original condition. I would not hesitate to use Cowan Masonry in the future for additional restoration and repair work. The breakdown of the cost: chimney cleaning: $175; removal of debris from chimney by cutting a hole in the bottom of the chimney, removal of existing pipe, installation of a new heater crock and pipe reset: $500; seal chimney exterior: $300."

"Work was fantastic. Response time was immediate. They came to house to give quote I accepted and they began work immediately finished the job in one day and just needed to stop in 2 consecutive days in the morning to finalize as the patch work needed to dry. Repair was a 4’ tall by 3’ wide upside down T shape draywall removed due to leaking plumbing. Wall had curve and needed to match perfectly for trim to fit back on and not show the lines of new drywall. Wall looks as good as new and no repair can be seen after painting. Could not be happier with the entire experience."

"Pat and his team were, by and large, fantastic. They executed on all aspects of the original quote flawlessly. The ribbon pointing around the stonework, especially in the front part of the house, turned out very nice. We're extremely happy with how the masonry looks. It went so smoothly, we added additional work onto the quote to seal the concrete and touch up paint along the exterior of the house. The painting wasn't as neat or clean as it could have been - it's probably a little step above what I could have done. Mostly importantly, when we encountered a couple of problems along the way, they were responsive and went above and beyond to sort it out. I think they approached the whole project very well, and even worked with us on the price for the add-ons. All-in-all, super solid work from a super solid contractor. Highly recommended."

Stucco questions, answered by experts

Solid, unpainted stucco shouldn’t suffer damage from dots of glue used for this task. If the stucco is dirty, you may notice slight marks when you heat and peel the glue away, but these aren’t permanent.

However, not all stucco walls are solid stucco. Some are “faux” stucco with a foam backing. This kind of stucco veneer is more susceptible to damage, including damage from hot glue. We don’t suggest attaching anything to these kinds of stucco walls, so make sure you check the stucco type before starting this project.

DIY is possible for small cracks or patches. Professional services ensure proper texture and color matching.

Stucco repair can best be described as a patch. It involves identifying the problem and fixing that specific damage with additional stucco. If no mold infiltration or an underlying leak is causing the damage, repair is most likely all you need.

Remediation, on the other hand, involves removing the existing siding, fixing the underlying cause of the damage, and then reapplying stucco siding for that wall. It’s a more permanent fix that takes longer to complete and, hence, comes with a steeper price tag than repair.

German schmear is a durable brick masonry coating. It should last at least a decade or two without flaking or fading, even with minimal maintenance. This makes it an economical option compared to the cost of painting your house exterior, which usually needs to be repainted every five to 10 years to keep it looking its best—thus costing more over the same time period.

To maintain stucco, inspect it annually for cracks and clean the surface with a mild detergent. Seal any cracks promptly to prevent water infiltration, and reseal or repaint as needed to preserve its appearance.
