"The crew did an amazing job. the scope of the project was immense. we had a 150 ft driveway that was old concrete replaced with pavers and it was widened by 2ft on each side. it also had a turn around put at the end by the garage. they completely redid our entire yard front and back close to 3/4 of an acre. they put in an entire drainage system with catch drains as the house sat at the bottom of a small hill and all the water all ran under the house. the put in a three level front yard with a stone slab walk away. a very large brick mail box and a brick outdoor grill. completely redid the pool deck with pavers put down gas lines for the he grill the water heater. for the pool and jacuzzi. as well as to the den fireplace to convert it to gas if/when we wanted to. had a water float line put in the pool to maintain water level. they were always on time, professional and clean up was done daily. they said it was gonna take 6 or seven weeks and it took 9. Only because we kept adding things on not in the contract. they never balked or complained about it. and we're always friendly (except the owner Stephen) JUST KIDDING. I HIGHLY recommend them for any job large or small. you just may have to wait a little as they're in demand and the proof is in the exceptional work done."

"Jeff Kale met with us throughout the project, both for the driveway project and then for the larger backyard project.  His crews were great and easy to work with.   The quote was what the pricing was and no overage charges.  Completely satisfied and very much would not only use them again, but highly recommend to friends and family.

I wish there was something better than an A grade that I could award to O'Neil's paving,  a gold star, perhaps.

The driveway turned out beautifully. Tom O'Neil's design not only corrected a drainage problem I had in front of the garage and another out at the street, he also managed to form a fine, graceful curve around a poorly placed, but valued, mature maple shade tree in the back.  As a nice extra, they even used their equipment to rip out an overgrown holly hedge for me  that I had loathed ever since buying the house, but had lacked the courage to try to take out myself.   I could not have been more pleased.  Definitely grade A work.

But alas, we do not live in a perfect world and sometimes even with the best of materials and the finest craftsmanship, things can still go wrong.  Nobody's fault.  It just happens sometimes.  So it was with my beautiful new driveway.  Shortly after giving Tom the check, flaws developed in a section of the pavement.

This is where O'Neil's Paving earns their extra gold star.

When a problem like this occurs, it can turn into  a homeowner's worst nightmare.  What will the company you hired do when something goes wrong  with the work they did after they have all your money?

I need not have worried at all.   When I contacted Tom, he  came out very promptly to look at the problem.  Then in short order his crew was back to break up and remove the offending slabs and lay new pavement.  No quibbling.  No hassles.   They said their goal was to make me happy and they meant it.

Need paving?  Talk to O'Neils, you will not be sorry

I am writing this recommendation for Procrete and their owner Dave McBride. I decided to engage Dave and Procrete after searching for a hardscape / paver contractor local to my summer house in Margate. There are many contractors who will work at the shore, but my preference was to find a company based in the area vs. an hour away.

Dave was very professional in his approach, and consultative. I shared with him what we were looking for, to completely rebuild our back yard, from 50 year old ugly cracked concrete and a chain link fence to a new vinyl fence and pavers.

We shared our vision, and Dave’s firm provided a sketch of what the back yard could look like with a specific paver design, which we ended up going with – while making a few changes along the way.

We also had Dave install a built-in gas firepit that has exceeded our expectations. It is now the central point of our new back yard.

While at it, I also had Dave replace my old cracked driveway with new concrete and pavers for my front walkway. AS his team was already at my house doing a job, the extra cost was not prohibitive.

My biggest concern going in was using a contractor that I did not have a previous referral for. Dave provided referrals plus a list of properties in the local area that he did work on.

I must say, the work was top notch and we are thrilled with how our back yard came out. I had no less than 4 neighbors comment on the work they were doing and their commitment to doing a good job vs. a fast job.

I have been screwed before by contractors that finish the job 80-90% and then never come back to truly complete the job. Dave even came back to finish all of my items on a punch list after the job was done.

I 100% recommend Dave and Procrete for hardscaping, paver and concrete work.

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

To ensure you hire a reliable and experienced paving company, you should start by finding companies in your area that have at least five to ten years of experience working in your neighborhood. Next, rule out companies with poor reviews online or a series of complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau. Since driveways affect your curb appeal, you should also ask each company for references and pictures of recent work to make sure the work the company does is professional and high quality. Finally, check that the company is licensed and insured.

A solid driveway starts with the right asphalt mix, and for most homes, dense-graded hot mix asphalt (HMA) is the most recommended. It’s both durable and flexible, making it a reliable choice for residential use. A properly compacted 2-3 inch layer on a well-prepared crushed stone base will hold up for years. In areas with harsh winters or scorching summers, a slightly modified mix can help prevent cracking and rutting. No matter the climate, quality installation is just as important as the material itself, so hiring an experienced contractor ensures a smooth, long-lasting driveway built to last.

Professionals ensure a solid base and smooth finish, enhancing durability and appearance.

In most cases, you don’t need a permit to repave your driveway, although some exceptions exist. If you’re widening your driveway and plan on widening the apron as well, you’ll usually need a permit from the Department of Transportation in your area. This permit costs between $50 and $300 in most cases. Most municipalities will also require a certified and insured contractor do the work relating to the apron and curb cut. You can contact your building department or ask your paving company if you need a permit. Your driveway professional will usually pull the permit for you.

A driveway approach is the part of a driveway where the public road meets the private driveway. This section contains several key elements, including the driveway apron, the curb cut, and the end slope. Depending on the slope of the driveway, this area may also contain the trench drain.
