"I cannot sing the praises of Jose and his team enough. I purchased a new home that had carpeting everywhere and hired J & J Elite Carpentry Inc to replace with wood floors. They did an AMAZING job as you can see from the pictures. J&J even took care of replacing a few closet doors. Jose and his team are very friendly, knowledgable, patient, responsive, on time and professional. They communicate and are transparent with you every step of the way and get the job done with such great detail and care. They also specialize in other areas so I plan to hire them for other home repair needs."

"I was refer to Maurice by a friend who said he is very neat and fairly priced. What a amazing job Maurice did on my entire condo. Maurice is very professional, friendly, detailed orientated, trust worthy. He is excellent at time management and goes further then just meeting expectations. I was so impressed by how reliable and accurate he is. Maurice certainly went above and beyond to make my place look brand new which included extensive prep work and repair of all walls/storage rooms, in addition to painting all the interior doors. I highly recommend Maurice on every level of craftsmanship and service, and I will refer him to anyone who is in need of a painter."

"As it happens, Wilber's Painting has skilled carpenters on staff who are competent, experienced, and committed to old world craftsmanship. Our good fortune was getting Maynor, a highly talented carpenter, who constructed and installed the door, which is quite attractive. The installation was tricky because the 90 year-old frame was not perfectly squared but he managed to get the right fit. Mahogany was used for the door frame and safety glass for the insert. I opted not to have a screen insert, so the glass is a permanent fixture."

"My husband and I were very pleased with this company. They gave us a fair price and did an excellent job at restoring our aging deck by first pressure washing it and then applying a high quality paint. We were able to select the color we wanted from a variety of colors. This father and son team were very easy to work with, answered any questions and work in a highly professional manner. We would highly recommend them to others."

"Though the original start of the project was pushed out one day, work was done quickly the next day without sacrificing quality. Project completion including cleanup done in a day. They have all the materials needed and necessary safety equipments as they had to repair the siding from the third floor of the building."

"What a terrific job they did! They were so prompt in getting in touch with me and flexible in setting up a time to come and paint. Very pleasant and professional. I would hire them again in a heartbeat! I am so pleased to have painters who know what they are doing. Thanks so much!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.

No rules state how much of a load-bearing wall can be removed. Rather, you need to adequately support any area that is removed. Support should always be added to as much wall area is being removed. Failing to support the area properly will result in structural damage.

Framing a basement takes three to five days, on average, when completed by a professional, though it may take longer for a larger space. Keep in mind this doesn’t include the time to complete the design, obtain permits, and install the drywall on the framing. On average, fully finishing a basement takes an average of 45 days.

Stick frames, metal frames, or prefabricated concrete frames are included in framing a house, along with creating the framework and space for windows, doors, and entryways. Other aspects of developing a home—like drywall, insulation, windows, doors, and more—are not included in the cost to frame a house.

Joists do distribute their load to beams, but they don’t sit on top of the beams. Instead, home builders nail or screw the joists directly to the beams such that the end of the joist butts up against the edge of the beam. Beams can sit on other beams for support, but you’ll never see a joist sitting on top of a beam or another joist.
