"I had a problem room that had little insulation. Cold in the winter. Hot in the summer. No attic access. Energy services group was able to drill large holes in the ceiling & outside wall and spray in insulation. Then plug the holes and spackle. Replaced canister lights with led ones. They explained to my wife what they were going to do before it happened. Then said what they actually were able to accomplish. Great communication. Quick to schedule. Cleaned up after themselves. A quality company"

Customers say: Quick response

"Really excellent work insulating an old house with dormers and limited headroom. The attic living space is noticeably improved by the insulation and the rest of the house maintains a more constant temperature. The workers were pleasant, the folks I was in touch with from the office were communicative. Overall, I would recommend Brittin Built for this kind of project."

Francisco and his crew were fantastic! Great job by Master Attic! Thank you!"

Insulation questions, answered by experts

In addition to adding insulation to your attic, you may want to add a radiant barrier. A radiant barrier works by using reflective material, such as foil, on the attic floor. As heat penetrates the roof and enters the attic, the radiant barrier reflects the heat upward and back through the roof. If you receive a lot of direct sunlight on the roof, using both a radiant barrier and insulation in your attic can provide significant benefits.

The best way to reduce heat upstairs is to release it by opening a window. Hot air rises, and if you can create some airflow by opening a window upstairs and also one on a lower level, the hot air should be pushed out of the home. Remember that fans pointing out the window do a much better job of circulating air than fans pointing into the home.

Whether plaster walls should be insulated depends on whether the walls are at particular risk of moisture problems. In many cases, you can insulate plaster walls, while in others, it's a poor decision because of the lack of a vapor barrier. Choose a reputable insulation contractor to help you decide if and how to proceed to increase your home's energy efficiency.

A garage ceiling needs a vapor barrier if it’s a heated garage or if you’re installing insulation in the ceiling. Without a vapor barrier, you risk moisture issues and mold growth. If you have an unheated garage and don’t plan on installing insulation that could get wet and harbor mold, the ceiling doesn't need a vapor barrier.

When it comes to fiberglass insulation versus foam board, there are a few notable differences, both aesthetically and functionally. Fiberglass insulation is soft and flexible, meaning it can be squeezed into tight spaces more easily than foam board. Fiberglass insulation also has a higher R-value, making it a better pick for colder climates. However, foam board insulation can resist moisture and pest damage much better than fiberglass.
