"Kevin upgraded the brick steps of my South Philadelphia rowhouse by installing bluestone treads and landings. He did a terrific job using quality materials and tools, thoroughly cleaned up afterwards, was reliable and communicative, and charged a reasonable price for a challenging job. I highly recommend KMJ Masonry and would not hesitate to call on them again."

"Working with Joe and his business has been a great experience. We’ve been working with Joe for a few years and he’s the most reliable and consistent contractor we’ve had out to our home. He’s responsive, accessible for questions/concerns and always willing to help us with our fall/spring projects. He has also given us creative solutions when we needed to be conservative with our spending. We highly recommend Joe Landscaping!"

"I highly recommend Pellicore Concrete! My wife and I hired Pellicore to remove our 10' wide asphalt driveway and replace it with a widened 18' concrete driveway. The project also entailed demolition of our existing concrete porch, replacing it, adding a new front patio, and tying the porch and patio work into the new driveway. Joe Pellicore met with us and gave us estimates for the entire project, along with breaking down the project into its component parts with estimates for each. We went with the entire project. Joe worked with us on dates for the project, which ended up taking 4 days. Joe and his staff arrived on time every day and kept us informed through each step, making sure we were involved in final decisions. Once the project was poured the crew did an amazing job cleaning up and backfilling gaps between the lawn and the new porch and driveway. They did fantastic work! We love our new porch, patio, and driveway!"

"Simply an unbelievable experience. Right from the beginning we knew we were in good hands. Charlie wasted no time reviewing our needs and within 5 minutes had an estimate. With one of the vendors it took 5 days to get an estimate. Crazy. Our new steps and front walk look amazing. In short, Charlie is an artisan. He and his team will be back in the spring to replace/expand our driveway. What's really cool is I can now tell anyone needing masonry work that I know a guy. Hire Charlie...and you will too!"

Masonry FAQs, answered by experts

In Burlington, homeowners often underestimate the impact of the area’s clay-rich soil and high water table on masonry foundations, leading to drainage and settling issues. Starting stonework or brick repair projects during the wettest months can delay curing and affect durability. Skipping required permits or ignoring local setback rules can cause costly setbacks. Choosing materials not suited for NJ’s climate or neglecting waterproofing are also frequent missteps.

Helpful?

When comparing masonry repair or brickwork quotes in Burlington, be cautious of unusually low estimates, as these may indicate subpar materials or shortcuts. Avoid contractors unwilling to provide proof of insurance or local project photos. If a quote lacks details about stonework or mortar types, or if the contractor pressures you to skip the permitting process, consider it a warning sign. Reliable pros should outline a clear timeline and cleanup plan.

Helpful?

In Burlington, masonry work faces unique challenges from the region’s humid summers and frequent freeze-thaw cycles. Schedule annual inspections to catch early signs of mortar deterioration or brick spalling. After heavy rains, check for efflorescence or moisture stains. Power washing with proper cleaning agents helps prevent mold growth, while applying a breathable sealant before winter protects against water intrusion. Ensure gutters and grading direct water away from masonry foundations.

Helpful?

Burlington homeowners can choose eco-friendly masonry options like reclaimed brick, locally quarried stone, or permeable pavers to improve drainage and reduce runoff. Lime-based mortars offer better breathability for historic homes, while some contractors now install solar-integrated masonry features. Green roofs on masonry structures and rain gardens adjacent to patios are also gaining popularity, helping manage stormwater and support native plants in the local landscape.

Helpful?

Burlington offers a range of masonry contractors, from specialists in brickwork, stonework, and chimney repair to companies focused on hardscaping and patio construction. Some firms excel in historic restoration, preserving the city’s older homes, while design-build teams handle both planning and installation. Handyman services may tackle minor masonry repairs, but larger projects typically require experienced local contractors familiar with Burlington’s soil and climate conditions.
