"My old pink 1960s tiles are in great condition but the grout and caulking needed replacing, a job too big for me. The job took one work day to do! Cost was under $400 and worth every cent. The room was left clean when the work was completed. I?d highly recommend Eagle Tile Services"

"We had a small tile backsplash/trim project for our guest half-bath. More a decor feature than functional so we wanted it done professionally. We already purchased all the materials and only needed labor. Home Art Tile made it very easy. Connected via Angie, measurements were done remotely via text and photos. Got a quick and fair estimate. They scheduled us for later in the month but had a cancellation and was able to move our installation to the same week as the quote! The installer was very professional, prompt and clean. We reviewed the scope of work and he went right up work. We had glass-based tiles that required a fair amount of cutting. Hi noticed a few chipped and cracked tiles and asked if he could replace those if there was enough left over. He was able to do so. Nice craftsmanship. Very satisfied with the work."

"Here's a polished version of your review for the tile installer: --- I hired Custom Tile Work to install my backsplash, based on a recommendation from the tile store where I made my purchase. Vince did an outstanding job. He was meticulous with every cut, cleaned up each day, and was a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Custom Tile Work for any tile installation needs."

"I’m absolutely thrilled with my new ceramic backsplash! The team was incredibly responsive and a pleasure to work with. Not only was their craftsmanship impeccable, but they also maintained a spotless workspace—vacuuming and mopping everything so my kitchen was pristine when they finished. I’ll definitely be hiring them again!"

"The project was to redo the entry, kitchen, and laundry room ceramic tile which included removing the existing and installing new porcelain 24x24 tile. The project was thought out and coordinated very well. by Armando. The installers did a great job and cleaned their workspace on a daily basis. I would highly recommend them and we are very happy with the work they did."

"I really hate dealing with projects like this as I hear such horror stories from friends and neighbors. But it had to get done so..... Enter ABS Home Improvements. I could tell when I met Thomas that he was a pro's pro. Asked all the right questions and showed past examples of his work. Does not hurt that he has close to 50 reviews and all 5 stars. We hired Thomas, signed the contract and worked out the start date. From demo to touch ups I felt like I was in great hands. No delays that were not for good reasons. His guys showed up when they were supposed to, they were respectful, friendly and very knowledgeable. You just could tell he would not accept anything less than stellar work from his subs. His main guy handled large format tiles like an artist. If I could leave a 10 star review I would do so. Do NOT hesitate to give ABS a call. They were on point and just a pleasure to work with. As well very reasonably priced for the workmanship."

"Mike did an EXCELLENT job replacing our shower floor with new tiles, and replacing the grout of the walls. Also, installed new toilets in all our bathrooms. He is very easy to work with, very responsible and tidy person. Thanks Mike for the job well done!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

When working on your bathroom floor tiling, you should always tile the floor first and then refit the toilet afterward. This has both practical and visual advantages—the tile will have a better seal, and the installation will look cleaner.

On the other hand, when you try to cut the tiles to fit around the toilet, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage. It’s a lot more work, it’s hard to be precise, and mistakes or miscalculations can lead to future moisture damage to the tiling, grout, and subfloor.

Glass tiles are among the most difficult to install. This is because their transparency makes the adhesive visible, and any imperfections on the opposite side are also likely to be visible. Glass tiles also must be handled carefully during installation, as they are prone to scratching. For these reasons, glass tiles often require professional installation to get the most out of their beauty and unique look.

Yes, you can tile over existing tiles in a bathroom, but it is not always recommended. For this method to be successful, the original tile surface must be clean, flat, and free of damage such as cracks, unevenness, mold, or mildew. While tiling over existing tiles can save time and money, there are potential drawbacks. The new adhesive may not bond properly, and the process adds extra weight to the wall or floor. Additionally, the increased height of the surface could interfere with door clearances. For the best and most durable results, removing the old tiles before installing new ones is generally the better option.

Grouting hearth tiles is one of the most important steps. It seals the tiles so heat doesn’t transfer under the tiles so easily, which can be dangerous. For this reason, heat-resistant grout is a must. Grout also prevents dust, dirt, and any other material from gathering between your tiles. If this happens and those buildups are flammable, a fire could start between the tiles.

Tiling can be DIY with the right tools and skills, but challenges like ensuring evenness and appropriate adhesion often warrant professional handling.
