"Lev came to do an initial inspection, going up on the roof to see what work needed to be done. While up there, he did some minor repairs before going up later to replace missing / damaged shingles in two small areas. I really appreciate that Lev was able to do this despite the rather steep pitch of our roof, and he did this very quickly, so we're definitely happy with the work. Thanks!"

"I researched over 20 roofing companies before finally deciding on Monarch Roofing to replace my roof. The excellent quality of their work, the length of time the company has been in business and great communication with the owner were key reasons for my decision to use them. Thanks Monarch Roofing."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Roll roofs don’t last as long as traditional roofs, like those made of asphalt shingles. A roll roof typically lasts between five and 15 years, whereas a shingled roof will last between 20 and 50  years. Modified bitumen roofs are similar in look to rolled roofing but have a 12 to 15 year warranty.

Many roofers remove satellite dishes as part of their services, especially during roof repairs or replacements. However, they typically won’t reconnect or reinstall the dish. If you no longer need the dish, roofers can dispose of it, but for reuse, you may need a satellite technician to handle reinstallation.

Whether you should choose a flat roof or a sloped roof depends on your particular situation. Flat roofs tend to be less expensive to install. However, sloped roofs have longer lifespans and stand up better to heavy snow and other inclement weather.

Keep in mind that even a flat roof needs to have a slight slope, usually around 1/2 inch for every foot. If it is completely flat, water will pool and cause damage, either from weight or leakage or rot.

Homeowners insurance does not usually cover roof soft spot repair. Since this damage is usually caused by wear and tear and often found on aging roofs, your insurance claim will likely be rejected. If a soft spot develops due to damage from a storm, repairs may be covered, but in general, expect to pay out of pocket for soft spot repairs.

No, you should not close or cover your gable vents in the winter. While it might seem logical to block cold air, heating your home creates hot air that rises and can cause condensation in the attic. If the vents are covered, this moisture becomes trapped, creating an ideal environment for mold and mildew. Keeping the gable vents open ensures proper ventilation, which helps dry out the attic, maintain even temperatures, and prevent moisture-related damage.
