"Avi was honest and professional. I thought I need to replace the whole roof but he said it is in good condition and I need to replace only a part of it. Gave me a good price compared to the other companies. He was nice and explained the whole process, made sure I will know everything. This is a picture from his drone. Great work."

"We are very happy with the bathroom renovation that Angel did for us. He is an experienced and skilled union carpenter from NYC who is now giving it a go in New Jersey. He is very conscientious and eager to please. Our older home threw him a few curveballs at him, but he was able to adjust to them, and our smaller bathroom looks great. He takes his time because he wants to get everything done correctly. We are very pleased with him, his reasonable prices and his good work that we’re now having him do some extra work for us. We recommend him. Pictures below of Angel's work and how our bathroom was before he redid it."

"Jose and his crew are awesome! The name says it all...precise preparation is the key. Jose made 60-year old wavy, bumpy, wallpaper paste-coated walls look like brand new drywall. They also fixed a cathedral ceiling that has been cracking and re-cracking along every board since it was partially replaced 10 years ago. I was amazed. We were very concerned about floor protection, since all the floors are hardwood, some brand new and recently re-finished. Jose and all his crew were very neat - not a drop of paint anywhere, including all around the baseboards (I checked!). They also made sure to cover everything to protect from dust, as there was a lot of spackling work needed for the repairs. Jose worked with me on the scheduling and even worked a couple weekends to allow for our work schedules. His price was not the lowest, but not the highest either, and extremely fair given the amount of work that went into preparing the walls to paint. If you just want someone to slap up a coat of paint for cheap, don't call Jose. He is way too picky for that - and I mean that in the best way possible! I've never hired a painter before, but had heard nightmare stories. I'm so glad we went with Jose and his crew. Highly recommended!"

"What a wonderful experience! After searching all of the options out there and dealing with unresponsive and unprofessional companies. Craig and his son Alex were a breath of fresh air! They repaired my drywall after water damage not only beautifully but they were so professional, polite, clean, and best of all understanding of my dogs getting in their way."

Overall, Jesse and his team were wonderful to work with.  They were all very respectful and nice.  The team tried to leave as much as the wiring and the floor as possible, as not to demo everything.  In the demolition process, however, some of the screws for the light fixtures went missing (not a terrible thing, but a small hassle).  The whole process took about a week, and the drain and the walls were fixed.  Our house doesn't smell moldy anymore which is a great plus!  Two small things which bothered me slightly after the fact, was that the foreman, Bryan, said he would return a window insert for our basement window, which he hasn't done yet (it keeps air from entering the basement).  Also, instead of unscrewing some piping around the dryer vent, it seems that they have just ripped it out (but that was an easy fix on our end...we just got a new aluminum pipe for the dryer).

The team put plastic sheeting down to protect the furniture on the first floor where they had to come in and out of to get to the basement (we don't have basement access).  They also did a cursory cleaning before they left each day, which I appreciated.  It wasn't a deep clean, but that wasn't expected either.

Jesse offered, kindly, to help us find some contractors who could help replace the drywall/studs and retile our floor; however, his contacts were all busy and weren't able to help us.  We ended up contacting some contractors through Angie's list to help us return our basement to its finished self.

It has been about a week and half after the work was completed, and the system seems to be working (and we have had some crazy rain storms).  Although there is a puddle of water that collects around the lid of the sump pump, which worries me slightly.  I have called Jesse to ask him if that's normal, but otherwise the work was well done!

"Excellent.  The most professional of those we interviewed.  Really knew what they were doing, and told us why the method they suggested would be the best for us (as well as the least expensive).  Did everything they said they would, and more as the found places uncovered during demolition, at no additional charge."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

There are several things you should not do when installing drywall. Common mistakes include: adding too many screws, over-sanding, not adding backing support, and installing drywall unevenly. You also should avoid screwing into the same place twice, installing Sheetrock with tapered edges on the outside, and making too many joints.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

It’s highly recommended to use studs for a TV mount. The last thing you want is to be watching your favorite show when the TV falls off the wall. Studs are much stronger than drywall and quite a bit stronger than drywall anchors but, if you can’t find the studs or there simply aren’t any where you need them, you can use drywall anchors. It’s extremely important to make sure the anchors are rated for the load of the TV. We recommend using anchors that are rated far beyond the weight of whatever you’re hanging. Our suggestion is metal drywall toggle anchors.

Regular dusting, occasional repainting, and avoiding harsh scrubbing preserve the finish.

Costs depend on damage extent of damage, labor, finishing, and whether mold remediation is needed.
