"Signed contract on May 8 for deck build.On May 12 rep came to my office to collect deposit of apprx $13,000. He said project team meeting on Wed & would update me then on start date etc. On Fri May 16 I had to reach out to him. He wrote the team had met & materials were ordered. An hour later he wrote back that he was misinformed & that his boss was going to call me next week. Despite this, dep check cashed. On Mon 5. 20 rep wrote back that they had forgotten certain costs & to proceed it would be $8,000 more. Not a typo. $8,000 more. No apology. Ridiculous, contract rescinded. I wrote that he could return my deposit at my office just as he had collected it. On Wednesday the 21st I got a text from "Tom," presumably the owner/boss, saying he would "drop a check in the mail" to my address. Today is May 30th, Friday, and still no check. Check at a minimum should have been overnighted. They owe me interest not to mention the deposit to hire a contractor who will honor contract. Bad."

"I suppose that if you call yourself "Dependable" right in your name, you have to live up to it, and Dependable David definitely lives up to it. First of all, he answers the phone and gets back to you. Sometimes, this is to tell you that he has no room in his schedule to take on your task. But at least he gets back to you to let you know. And if he does commit to doing work for you, he's there when he says he'll be there. He also does good, solid work. And he listens carefully to what you're asking him to do. If you ask him to be extra neat when painting, he'll be extra neat. If you ask him to tape everything, he'll tape everything. He bills by the hour, so this allows him to be more careful or take extra time to do something just right, if you ask him to. He doesn't need to rush, because he bills by the hour. He also doesn't farm out the work to a bunch of different guys. He shows up himself and does the work. In our case, he ended up swooping in and saving the day after our previous contractor made a royal mess of the job and had to be fired. So far, for us, he has done: --Mudding and painting a large room, including high ceilings and stair wells. --Mudding and painting an entire kitchen. --Installing natural (unpainted) Hickory baseboard molding in our entire 2-story house (including applying polyurethane to the molding before installing). This was an absolutely gigantic job (491 feet of molding), with so many cuts and corners, including some tiny detail areas where the new molding had to mate with existing woodwork (like around the staircase). --Framing, drywalling, and mudding a new hall closet. He also sourced the door for us. In this case, he only had one free day in his schedule, but he didn't over-promise, and told us that he would only have time to frame/drywall and do the first coat of mud (I would have to finish sanding, mudding, painting, installing the door, and trim myself). And he did exactly what he said he would do. All of this work has been great in terms of quality. David is also a friendly guy. He's fun to talk to. And he seems like the kinda guy you can trust in your home. But most of all... he's dependable!"

Craig came to our home, evaluated the situation and created a great plan to fix everything. We ended up replacing the wood around the door and installing an entirely new door. "Once again and with the highest confidence, we hired Russell's Contracting to convert our back entrance into a more open, useful mudroom. As promised, they arrived on time on the expected date and started by sealing off the back entrance for dust. The demolition of the closet was first done, and then the rehab began. I was amazed at the level of detail necessary to make the new mudroom perfect. From fixing the ceiling to installing new walls, taping and sanding, painting, new baseboards, and moving the overhead light, it was fun to watch. Colby was professional, exacting, efficient, clean, and asked all the right questions to ensure we were happy with the result. The new mudroom is exactly what we wanted. In addition, we asked Russell's to help us figure out how to make our open staircase to the second floor safer. Keith, Colby, and Max designed and installed a custom-built, stair-to-ceiling railing system that looks great and provides the necessary safety we were looking for. They also made it removable to accommodate large objects up and down stairs. The amount of time they spent was crazy, and the amount of math they did to ensure it was plumb and solid was above and beyond our expectations. My house was built in 1933, and this railing system looks like it could have been original to the house. It is a masterpiece.
