"The 2 movers, Christopher and JP, were very professional, careful and efficient. They had to figure out the logistics to manipulate a large wardrobe upstairs, around the hallway and into the room where I wanted it moved. They did this very intelligently with no damages to the walls or wardrobe. Very courteous and caring, and were willing to work with me on the best way to complete the job. Excellent service and professionalism!"

"Kyle McIntyre of McIntyre Construction was extremely prompt and professional from first contact to completion of our new roof and skylights. His pricing was competitive and all the products they used were top notch. We had concerns about having the work done in the middle of the summer as we have extensive flower beds surrounding the house, however, he and his crew took great measures to avoid any damage. We would highly recommend McIntyre Construction and have already done so with some of our friends and neighbors."

"I hired Ben through Thumbtack and I couldn't be happier with Ben's work so I thought I would spread the word. I am so grateful for the quality of work he performed in replacing my sink and faucet. He was skillful, meticulous, punctuation and fast. He is professional and understands the art of great customer service and is passionate about his work. I feel as if I found a treasure in Ben and I will hire him for future projects and other work I need to get done."

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

Removing snow from your roof can help prevent ice dams, but the best thing to do is address insulation issues in your attic. If you do decide to remove the snow manually, you should always use a roof rake rather than a shovel. You shouldn’t climb your snowy roof in any circumstance, and roof rake allows you to remove the snow from the ground or a ladder. For the best results, remove snow as soon as possible after it falls.

Yes—in fact, it’s an important step in how to start a snow blower. Allowing the engine to idle for a few minutes prior to using a snow blower helps it reach its optimal operating temperature, which gets the fuel running properly, improves its performance, and helps prevent stalling during frigid weather.

A common mistake is you can let snow melt naturally in a window well. However, snow buildup in the well can damage your window frames and walls. The melting snow also poses risks of water damage as it may leak through into the basement. It’s important to shovel snow out of your window wells before too much snow is piled in there.

Snowblowers are some of the best tools for snow removal because they remove large amounts of snow quickly without bodily harm or damaging your deck. If your snowblower can fit on your deck, it’s a good first line of defense to remove snow quickly and easily. If you don’t have a snowblower, a plastic shovel with a rubber blade is another good choice to remove snow on a deck.

It’s the reverse of home de-winterization. To winterize, you purge your plumbing system (including your water heater and all piping) of water. Some experts also recommend filling fixtures with an antifreeze solution. Other tasks involve winterizing sprinklers, sealing foundation vents, check weatherproofing around doors and windows, and more.
