"Justin came out and gave us two quotes, one to repair and one to replace. He gave pros and cons of each option and we chose to replace. They arrived early with a full crew and did an exceptional job. The job involved removing a significant number of roots and a lot of regrading. We arrived home to an amazing looking driveway and a large pile of roots in the woods, The evening after the work was done Justin came by to check on our satisfaction with the work and told us to dos and don't to ensure the driveways stays in good condition. Overall a wonderful job!"

"Chris did an excellent job! I got many different quotes through companies from Google and HomeAdvisor but felt Chris could do the job the best. He took out an old walkway, built a new walkway down a different area in my front yard then added a new retaining wall and granite steps from my driveway to my front door. He also put in a circle kit near my front door and put in a granite mailbox post. Everything came out perfect! Chris is a very hard worker, great communicator and I am very satisfied with the work he did. I would hire him again!"

"Apex Landcare is a skilled and friendly company to work with. Kenny and Cam are polite, clean, and knowledgeable about both interior and exterior projects. Their hardscaping work for me has held up beautifully and drains properly. Fall cleanup and tree/yard maintenance is very thorough and well priced. Smaller "honey-do" projects are no problem and the house is always left tidy. I would trust them with larger interior renos as well."

"We wanted to have our driveway redone but thought it would be REALLY expensive. This company did a neighbor's house and we asked for quote. We were surprise at the estimate and had them had do it. They shim low area, took out some gravel, removed some old gravel, etc. Did a quick, clean, excellent job. Another neighbor watched them with our driveway and decided there and then to have her driveway done as well. We would recommend this company."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

The decision to repair or replace your driveway depends on the extent of the damage. If your driveway has a few small cracks, a simple repair will do the trick. If you see larger cracks and potholes, it may be time to consider resurfacing or replacement. Resurfacing is a great option if more than 25% of the surface is damaged, but if the damage is extensive—deep cracks or significant sinking—it’s best to replace the driveway entirely. A new driveway, with proper care, can last decades while patching or resurfacing might only hold up for a few years before needing more attention.

Even with regular maintenance, most driveways don’t last much longer than 30 years. Alligator cracking is a clear warning sign that your driveway’s foundation is failing, and cracks that are deep and wide can let water in, causing more damage. Standing water is another red flag. If your driveway doesn’t drain properly, it’s going to degrade slowly. Finally, if you’re seeing dips or uneven patches, that’s a sign the base layer or soil is shifting. If these issues pop up, it’s time to replace your driveway.

You should not attempt to install your own driveway. Whether working with asphalt or pavement, this is a complicated project that requires special equipment. Talk to some nearby asphalt or paving professionals and discuss your particular needs—it’s a good idea to get a few quotes and look at the company’s past work.

Gravel is the most economical and least expensive driveway material, costing between $1 and $3 per square foot. This is significantly cheaper than alternatives like asphalt or concrete. However, it's important to consider long-term costs, as gravel driveways require regular maintenance. You will likely need to add new gravel filling once or twice a year and regularly rake it to keep it level, which can add to the overall cost over time.

Yes, you can retrofit an existing driveway, but this usually involves cutting grooves into the driveway, installing the heating elements, then sealing them. While this is much less expensive than typical heated driveway systems, the final appearance could be diminished. Speak with a driveway paving company to confirm which design method is best for you.
