"We couldn’t be more impressed! Dennis was absolutely meticulous!!! He went above and beyond. He successfully removed some wallpaper, and was quite knowledgeable of the process as well ask how to safely do this. He kept the house so neat and clean during his work and there wasn’t a speck of paint on the floor after he left! He prepped the walls, filling MANY holes, and you’d never be able to tell! We couldn’t be happier!!! Thanks Dennis!!!! Highly highly recommend!!!"

"Jay and his team did a great job on my project. They were respectful of my time and space, keeping the job on track with the timeframe quoted to me. They were also one of the cleanest companies I have worked with. There was nothing left for me to do once they were done, but enjoy the space. I would highly recommend."

"We had significant house and barn repairs. From the beginning Clayton was prompt, courteous and reliable. He replaced a completely rotted out basement window, a rotted out house window sill, replaced custom decking on entry steps (great wood recommendation and finish), and fixed a barn/shed door which had literally fallen off the hinges (included frame replacement and installed a metal splash fixture to prevent future rot). Clayton has a good sense of how to repair and to prevent future problems based on his many years of experience and all at a reasonable rate."

Wallpaper Removal FAQs, answered by experts

In most cases, it is not recommended to wallpaper over existing wallpaper, as the success depends on the type of paper already on the wall. While you might be able to cover non-coated wallpaper, you should never apply new wallpaper over a vinyl-coated one, which is more common. Doing so can lead to poor adhesion, resulting in bubbles, imperfections, and peeling. It can also trap moisture, potentially causing hazardous mold growth between the layers.

Even if the existing wallpaper is suitable, experts recommend applying only one new layer. Adding multiple layers (more than two total) can cause significant adhesion problems, leading to warping and bubbling. For the best results, the recommended approach is to remove the old wallpaper and all paste residue before hanging the new paper. If you are unsure about your wallpaper type, consider consulting a professional.

While you can remove wallpaper yourself, it is a labor-intensive process that risks damaging your walls. Common DIY methods include using a steamer to loosen the adhesive or spraying the paper with a solution of hot water and vinegar or dish soap before scraping. However, steamers can cause irreparable damage if used incorrectly, and the spray-and-scrape method can harm drywall if it gets too wet or you scrape too aggressively. For these reasons, hiring a professional is often the fastest, easiest, and safest option. A pro has the experience and specialized tools to remove wallpaper efficiently without damaging the underlying surface, which saves time and minimizes the prep work needed for your next wall treatment.

If you’re installing new wallpaper and have leftover glue, you can remove unused wallpaper paste from the bucket or pan it’s in by letting it dry. If it’s an oil-based paste, seal it in a plastic bag and throw it in the garbage. Otherwise, toss the leftover wallpaper paste in the trash. Although it’s water-soluble, don’t rinse unused wallpaper paste down the sink because it could dry in the pipes and cause a blockage.

Hiring a professional wallpaper remover is almost always worthwhile. Although the work is more expensive due to labor costs, doing it yourself is extremely time-consuming, complicated, and easy to make mistakes and wreak havoc on your walls, regardless of the tools you use. Professional wallpaper removers have the tools and experience to get old wallpaper down quickly and without damaging the walls behind it.

Yes, you can pay someone to strip wallpaper. Before you hang new wallpaper, you should hire a local wallpaper removal service to prep the surface properly. Wallpaper removal pros cost $0.55 to $1.50 per square foot or $500 to $700 per room. Prices vary by room size and removal technique, as some options are more labor-intensive.
