"Russ’s crew from Shop at Home Flooring installed laminate flooring in my living room in mid October of 2021. I was satisfied with the finished result, but as of late June when the warmer weather started, the floor has been buckling and lifting up in a particular area. I contacted Russ and explained the problem and provided him a video that shows the problem. He told me I needed to run a dehumidifier in order to solve the problem which I have been doing with no results. If anything it has gotten worse. I contacted Russ to let him know and was told he would send out Paul (one of his crew members) to come and look at it. This was on July 26 and I still have not heard from Russ after numerous attempts to contact him. I have filed a dispute with Thumbtack, the app I used to hire this company, and Russ has not responded and has since removed his company info from the from the thumbtack site. In the meantime I have had two contractors come out to assess the problem, both telling me that in their opinion the floor was installed improperly. Still no response from Russ or his company. Very unprofessional. Would definitely not recommend!"

Our motto is, "Before You Begin, Consider The Finish." We are a family owned and operated small business and we take great pride in each flooring project.

"We had someone who pretended to know how to do flooring, had done work for us before. They installed our tile wrong, and within 3 days it had broken tiles and grouting coming up. We called Carter Mountain, and they came, tore everything up, and did it properly! Love my new floor! The guys were so great! It’s been several months now, and it’s still perfect! Best flooring people ever. Next year we will have them redo some carpet! Great price, too!"

Our company is family owned and operated. We have 5 very close and longtime employees. Lisa, Joe, Chris, Sam & Art. We have been working with the very best builders in Southern NH and Northern Ma. for over 30 years. We have belonged to the Chamber of Commerce since 2008. We opened our retail store in 2008 and service our customers with the best installers and warranty all our installations for life. We offer GE Financing for our customers and Pro Trade for our builders. We also take most credit cards.

"Money was paid, but no service was performed. If you enjoy getting scammed by local business, then stop what you're doing and quickly head to Instock Flooring in Salem. The owner's son (Sam Cloutier) witnessed us paying $22,305 for his cabinets (contractor subsequently invoiced $16,200) and is now withholding them because the contractor had previous debt with him. If he accepted our order why would he then hold our cabinets hostage? We paid up front and in full. Does this business practice feel fair and equitable to you?"

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

Installing carpet padding is mostly a matter of measuring the room and cutting the carpet pad to size with a utility knife. You can save some money on carpet installation costs by doing it yourself. Before installing the carpet padding, you should install the tack strips around the room’s perimeter and prepare the subfloor by cleaning and making any necessary repairs. Then, unroll the carpet pad and cut sections as needed. Staple the carpet pad to the subfloor along the edges, leaving the tack strips exposed.

You can save money on labor costs by removing your old carpet before the professionals come in to install the new carpet. Just make sure to clear it with your contractor ahead of time. You might also be able to cut costs by buying carpet at certain times of year when it’s less expensive. These periods include late December to mid-January and late spring to early summer.

Yes, carpet tiles are easy to install—even if you don’t have much DIY experience. In fact, the simple installation process is one of the main reasons that people choose carpet tiles over traditional carpet. Since carpet tiles come in individual squares, they aren’t as heavy or awkward to install as regular carpet. Plus, you don’t need specialized equipment (like knee kickers or carpet stretchers) when installing carpet tiles.

No, it works best under synthetic carpets in high-traffic or moisture-prone areas. Avoid using moisture barrier padding under natural fiber carpets like wool, which need air circulation. The barrier can trap the moisture against natural fibers and cause problems. Also, you can skip it in low-risk areas like upstairs guest bedrooms, where the extra protection often isn't worth the added cost.

Stain-resistant carpet might be worth it for your household if you have children or pets and expect spills to happen. While it may cost more than you expected upfront, you may save money in the long run if you have to replace your carpet less frequently (thanks to stains not absorbing down into the fibers).
