"This was the second project CT Masonry has executed at my home. This project was a much larger project than the previous one. CT Masonry did an amazing job, well beyond expectations just as they did the last time. The entire C&T masonry team conducted themselves with that utmost of professionalism. The C&T team arrived early ,stayed late, worked through inclement weather, finished the project on time and did a absolutely flawless job. The work area was spotless after completion. The quality of work and communication work was superb. The C&T Masonry team are a truly dedicated team that take great pride in every detail of there work, this team has mastered there masonry craft. I will definitely be using C & T Masonry again and referring them to my family. Great bunch of hard work trustworthy individuals."

"Ben arrived on time for the inspection/quote. The job was to be started and completed the following Sunday. Ben arrived at 8:00 AM, Sunday. He repaired, tuck pointed and waterproofed our chimney in approximately 4 hours. He left a clean job site. I highly recommend Ben and 3 Brothers for any masonry needs."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

A fireplace hearth is a fireproof flooring material that extends out from the base of the fireplace and into the room. Hearths can be made of brick, ceramic, marble, limestone, and more. A hearth serves the purpose of decreasing the fire risk in the area directly around the fireplace. If flying embers hit carpet or wood, they’ll spark and create a fire. But if they hit something like tile or granite, they’ll simply go out.

Cutting stone comes with a number of safety hazards. First and foremost, if you’re not comfortable with the equipment required to cut stone, including blades and grinders, you could easily injure yourself. The heavy machinery also poses a risk to your ears if you don’t wear proper ear protection; similarly, you need to wear eye protection to keep debris from irritating your eyes.

However, the biggest risk from cutting stone comes from the stone dust. When breathed in, stone dust can be a huge hazard to your lungs. Always wear a face mask when cutting stone to prevent inhaling stone dust, and thoroughly clean the work area when you are finished.

To avoid injury, we recommend hiring a stone-cutting professional, rather than attempting this job yourself.

This is largely dependent on the size and hardness of the rock, but a range of tools might work, including hammers, chisels, rock hammers, sledge hammers, and more. You'll need a jackhammer for the very biggest rock-breaking jobs.

Yes, staining a brick home can increase a home’s value, assuming your pro does a good job and you keep up with maintenance tasks. Staining brick is a much better way to increase a home’s value than painting brick, as the latter can cause chipping, warping, and bubbling. Brick stain, on the other hand, gets absorbed by the surface, so it can still breathe.

You should clean your home’s brick once per year. This applies to exterior brick, but also to cleaning brick fireplaces. Create a homemade cleaning solution with equal parts vinegar and water. Use a soft-bristle brush to scrub the solution into the face of your brick and remove dirt, algae, and stains. Cleaning will protect brick from damage and boost your home’s curb appeal.
