"I hired Dylan to take down 3 large pine trees and grind the stumps. He and his crew did an excellent job. The work was skillfully done with only minor damage to our yard and his price was reasonableâ better than the other bids I got. Highly recommend."

"They were amazing!!! Great price, professional, informative, and even helped me clear out another pile of branches that was separate from the job I hired them for. They were the only ones who kept in contact over all of the tree companies and were willing to do the tough tree removals another company said they wouldnâ t do."

"Andrew did a great job and even made suggestions to help improve on what I wanted done. It made it much easier to maintain after all the work was done. It turned out even better than I thought it would. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again for any future projects. I may even start using him on a regular basis just to save myself some time every week."

"We hired John Faucher of TLC TREE AND CRANE SERVICE to come in to cut some limbs so the well company could come in with the drill to drill for water. I called in the evening and he was here the following day. The limbs were over a shed. John and his crew did an amazing job. Not a splinter of wood was left behind. When the well company completed their job I called John & they were here the following day to bury the water line. At an other time we had some wind damage of a huge pine tree. I gave John a call and he & his crew was here when he said he would be. Once again he left without a branch left behind. I highly recommend John Faucher of TLC.TREE AND CRANE SERVICE. They do an amazing job at a very decent price."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Any cutting of tree roots can hurt or kill a tree, which is why it's recommended you don’t do it unless the roots are damaging or invasive on a nearby structure like your home. You should never cut more than 15 percent of above-ground tree roots at one time. If you have any questions about cutting tree roots, contact your local arborist.

The best time to cut down a tree is during its dormant season, typically in winter or early spring, after all the leaves have fallen. Removing a tree during this period is advantageous for several reasons. Frozen ground helps secure the tree stump, protects the surrounding landscape from damage, and reduces the risk of the tree falling in an unintended direction. With the leaves gone, there is less risk of the tree's foliage getting tangled with other trees. Additionally, since this is often a slower season for tree services, you may be able to hire a professional at a lower rate. This dormant period is also the best time for tree trimming.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

When a palm tree no longer produces new fronds and old fronds start turning yellow-brown, that’s a sign the tree is dying. However, transplanted palm trees can show these signs for the first several months as they re-establish themselves. It’s best to keep watering and not give up on the palm tree until a couple of seasons have passed and you’re sure it’s not coming back to life.

The felling notch you make before you make the final cut will determine which way the tree will fall. The cut will be in a wedge or triangle, and the tree will fall from the highest point of the triangle. You can use this, as well as the process described above, to estimate where a tree will fall.
