The old bathroom had been DIY'ed just about to death by the previous owner and there were numerous problems in the electrical and plumbing areas. During demolition of the existing shower area it became obvious that there was significant structural defects and rotting which were addressed as they were found with solid new design and construction practices.
I consider him a trusted advisor and look to him first for advice and recommendations. Do yourself a favor if you are considering building or remodeling and talk with David. You won't be sorry.

Any resistance that hit the auger would cause the engine to cut out. I didn't know the first thing about small engines outside of making sure there's gas in the engine, change the oil once a year, and the carburetor could get clogged. I bit the bullet and called Dube's to get it fixed. I hoped it was just the carb and Dube's gave a quote on rebuild vs new along with the pick up and drop off fees.
They came by and picked it up and told me it would be a few days before they looked at it. I waited and said small prayers that it wouldn't snow while the machine was in the shop. They called me up and gave me the bad news, the 70's engine was done. They said it had very low compression and even if they fixed the issue my 7HP engine may have 4-3HP left in it. They also said the drive train was going to fail at any time and suggested that I replace that as well. After a discussion on if the machine was worth fixing vs putting the $560 into a "new to me" snow blower I decided to spend the money and get the vintage Snow Blower back up and running. They ordered the parts quickly and told me I may have it back by Thursday / Friday, but mother nature had other plans. UPS delays and a late part pushed the delivery back to Saturday.
All the communication occurred over the phone and they picked up and dropped off the snow blower without anyone being at the house. That made everything very smooth and didn't interfere with anything my family was doing. I'll be needing some maintenance on my lawnmower in the spring and I'll be calling Dube's at that time.

I was just sorry we didn't get to work with him more, but he will be our first call for our next house project. I am also recommending him without reservation to friends of mine who just bought a new house in need of a ton of work.

No, it’s not legal for unlicensed individuals to conduct structural calculations for buildings or building repairs. Not only do licensing requirements prevent DIYers from tackling this project, but mistakes can also be extremely dangerous and put your property and anyone inside or near it at risk of severe injury or even death. You should always hire a licensed and certified local structural engineer to make structural calculations.
Yes, all states require structural engineers to carry the proper license, with specifics determined by each state. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to confirm that the structural engineer you’re considering holds the required licensing to tackle your job. Hiring an unlicensed structural engineer will not only cause issues with permits but it could also lead to an unsafe building. The cost of a professional, licensed, and experienced engineer is well worth the investment.
The process of hiring a structural engineer starts by finding reliable professionals in your area and comparing quotes from at least three of them. From there, you can narrow down your selection by asking some leading questions:
Do you have experience working in my specific area?
Do you have professional indemnity insurance?
What will your structural report cover?
Do you charge a flat fee for a structural report or by the hour?
How long have you been in business?
Do you have a list of customer references?
Structural engineers typically charge between $100 and $250 per hour, but many jobs won’t be based on a per-hour fee. Instead, the structural engineer will offer a flat rate for the inspection and structural calculations. The flat rate for a structural engineer costs an average of around $550, but you could see prices ranging from $300 to $800, depending on the complexity of your project and how easy it is to access certain parts of your home for the inspection.
Whether you’re building a new home or building an extension on your existing property, you will likely need both a structural engineer and an architect. A structural engineer will determine what loads your foundation and framing can safely handle, and an architect will draw plans according to those structural calculations to simplify the building process. You can start by contacting a structural engineer near you, as many work alongside architects and can get all of the prep work done at once.
