"Make sure you ask questions. After getting a clear understandable explanation of why and what they were doing, I felt I was getting my money's worth. They were a bit pricey. Workers were prompt, courteous and were careful of our property."

"They did everything during the promised times and have followed up with three additional vista just to answer questions and clean up some of their work. After the initial install, my wife noticed some cracking in the cement.... They returned and relaid the concrete. Mike did the i tall... His team was extremely professional and stayed with the job until we were completely satisfied. I know that thrasher is a little more expensive, but the service and piece of mind make it totally worth the cost. We aren't sure whether we want to expand on the waterproofing (we didn't exactly do the full service for their waterproofing because we wanted to leave some of the bricks in the basement exposed) but if we do, we will call thrasher again. CJ gave us our initial quote and completed our initial inspection. If all of ther inspectors are as professional and knowledgable, then I doubt you will be disappointed.

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Costs range from $3,500 to $15,000, depending on material, labor, and design complexity.

The white stains you see on your bricks are likely efflorescence, which is salt and lime buildup. To remove efflorescence stains, simply brush them away with a stiff brush. For larger, more stubborn stains, scrub the stains with a water-detergent solution.

Yes. Black stains are more than an eyesore. Some black stains can pose health concerns, especially for those with asthma, allergies, or other respiratory conditions. Some stains can also damage the brick’s structural integrity, harming the mortar and resulting in more expensive repairs.

Yes, brick can breathe through limewash. Limewash is a breathable coating made from natural lime and water, allowing moisture to pass through while providing a protective layer. Unlike synthetic paints or sealants, which can trap moisture within the brick and lead to issues like mold, limewash allows the brick to maintain its natural breathability. This characteristic makes limewash an ideal choice for historic structures where preserving the integrity of the brick is essential.

Masonry uses units like bricks, cement blocks, and stone with mortar between them. Mortar is generally made of sand and a type of cement. Examples of masonry include the brick or stone on a house, chimney, or freestanding wall. Concrete is a mixture of water, sand, stone aggregate, and other materials, and is poured into forms or moldings. Types of concrete applications include driveways, garage and basement floors, and poured concrete walls in basements and crawl spaces.
