He set services up immediately. At first, I thought I could manage a new snowfall so I emailed and said I could do "this one myself before I go." It turned out to be too much for me so I contacted them again and very late that night Mr. Diaz came out himself to remove the remaining snow. Their fees are comparable, their service is excellent, and billing is easy and online. I will keep using their services, even when I am at home. They also do landscaping and I hope to be able to use their services then as well."

"When Mike Welniak first came to my house to provide an estimate for the requested driveway pad, my wife and I specifically made three overriding desires known: 1) the outer-most, eastern edge of the pouring must line up with a back patio eastern boundary (in the event the two were eventually connected); 2) the slope of the pour must match the adjoining slope of the original driveway (sloping down from the south, then up half-way toward the garage to facilitate the effect of a french drain -- draining from east to west); and 3) the east-west seams in the pour must line up with the east-west section lines in the original driveway (to avoid a patchwork quilt look). Between that visit and his delayed return the next week (due to equipment repairs) to accomplish the work, I precisely measured and excavated the boundaries of the pending pour to help ensure the accomplishment of our three major goals, as well as to preserve some of the transferable sod portions for future use. I took pictures detailing the results of my work.

When Mike and his 3-man team (including the foreman) arrived to perform their work, I carefully reviewed our three overriding goals for the project with Mike, as well as other minor issues. I showed them all the exact boundaries and marker flags for the pour (shaped similarly to the outline of the state of Nevada). His team promptly began to (imprecisely) expand the boundaries to accommodate the forms for pouring, while also excavating the additional limestone and dirt portions I had left untouched. A short while later Mike came to get me from inside my house so that he could show me the finished excavation work and receive my approval for pouring the concrete. I was very pleased that he invited me to evaluate their progress and expressed my great pleasure to him. When I bent down, however, to check the alignment of the forms (goal #1) with the boundary of the back patio (both extend to the east beyond the footprint of the garage), I stated that unless there was an optical illusion due to the downward then upward slope of the forms (goal #2), the forms did not appear to be aligned with the patio. Mike was certain they were, but at my insistence had the foreman set out a chalk line. The forms were NOT properly aligned, which drew an angry outburst from Mike toward his foreman. After they reaccomplished that portion of the work, I gave my approval for calling the cement truck to our location. I returned inside my home, but observed the truck's arrival. The pouring process involved filling the bucket of a skid loader which then carried the concrete down the driveway to dump it into the framed area. Sometime after this part of the project began, Mike left the site while the team continued the work.

In the late afternoon Mike came to my door to show me the finished project. The first thing I noticed was the continuity of slope between the original driveway and the new pour (goal #2). I knew I'd have to wait through the winter to fully evaluate if the french drain effect had been preserved. After a few good rain showers, it appears that goal was successfully achieved. The second thing I noticed was that the new seams were poorly aligned with those in the main driveway (goal #3). I asked Mike to account for the misalignment. He tried to explain that the team's routine procedure was to mathematically divide their measurements in order to create the seams. After I politely, but insistently, reminded him that one of the three primary goals was to align the seams, he eventually and profusely apologized. As a matter of after-the-job cleanup, I also asked him about the surface condition of the original driveway: it was covered, for example, with tire markings from the skid loader. He assured me that the rain and other weather conditions would naturally clean off the surface over time. It eventually did, except for numerous, unsightly splotches of concrete residue likely spilled during the job. The work crew cordoned off the newly poured area, and Mike left temporarily to retrieve large insulated blankets to keep the forecast snow off during the curing time. After about ten days I removed the blankets, swept them off, and rolled them up for pick-up. The stakes and caution tape were taken down by the crew when they briefly stopped by to get the blankets several days later.

I was disappointed with the work by MWC Construction after having previously read reviews on this website. I was expecting above average work. Of the three primary goals I had reviewed more than once with Mike, the first one was successfully accomplished only because I brought the impending error to his attention. The second was clearly achieved. The third goal was not. The misalignment of the seams is obvious (as an observer readily pointed out) and greatly complicates an alternative vision I shared with Mike for extending the pour further eastward to a future out-building. The unsightly splotches of dried concrete on the surface of the original driveway, have come to symbolize the mediocre work I received. Is the parking pad functional? Yes. Does it drain properly? Yes. What more could I ask for? I expected work that was above average, since the company had previously enjoyed several above average ratings. MWC Construction, however, provided me with only average service."
