"John was very reassuring when I called him in a panic about the balcony we are trying to build. We had already hired a contractor and found out we were not going to satisfy the codes of the village, and had to hire an architect in order to do so. I had never had to do that before, and thought it would too expensive. John came to meet us right away so he could get started on the plans. The village codes are very numerous and strict, and John found a way to help us get exactly what we wanted, without having to sacrifice any space to meet these codes. At the beginning of the process, I asked John if he could give me a ball park on how much his services would cost, and the final bill was pretty much spot on what said it would be. John is a very talented architect with a kind and knowledgeable disposition. It was our pleasure to work with him. I would use his services again, and highly recommend him to others."

"Fred at One Stop Shop did an excellent job. He answered all of my questions, showed up on time, and was courteous and respectful. He was patient with my overly anxious, barking dog and priced matched my other previous quotes. He went above and beyond my needs and expectations and I will definitely recommend him to all of my family, friends and all business owners I know!"

Architects questions, answered by experts

New constructions, renovations, and interior layouts benefit from expert drafting.

Universal design is a design concept that states that products, spaces, and general environments are designed to be used by everyone, with an emphasis on accessibility for those with limited mobility or other special needs.

When you think about Arts and Crafts-style homes, you probably think of a Craftsman house or a bungalow-style Craftsman. Craftsman is one of the major styles developed during the Arts and Crafts movement, but it checks most boxes. Craftsman houses have low-pitched roofs, exposed rafters, open floor plans, and stunning wood finish.

There are differences between universal design and ADA accommodations, but the outcomes are often similar. While universal design is a proactive process that takes a social justice approach to accessibility for all, ADA accommodations are focused specifically on accessibility for individuals living with disabilities. ADA accommodations often take the shape of wider doors and hallways, ramps, elevators, lower counters and sinks, and easy-to-grab door handles; universal design can include these plus emphasize better lighting, tractioned floors, and other building elements that allow all people to use buildings more comfortably.

While the Arts and Crafts movement inspired many architectural elements, the primary styles from the time include Craftsman, Tudor Revivals, bungalows, and Mission homes. You'll see elements of these styles in homes, churches, museums, and schools—particularly Country Day schools from the era.
