Like we were taught, we received 3 bids for the project and accepted the bid from the guy who said he would do the most work for the least amount of money. All three bids were relatively close in nature and all three men were kind, but at the end of the day we did not choose Level Up Construction. We would later regret that decision. After three months and a poor product from the other contractor, we hung our head and contacted Level Up construction. We got a new bid right away with the assurance that no job was too big. We apologized for not going with the company that had raving reviews, and we were deeply thankful that Level Up construction agreed to take the job and do the best they could considering the poor workmanship of the previous contractor. Also, they completed the work for a very reasonable and humble price considering that they could have really jacked the price, as they knew of our desperation at this point. Professional, quick, on time, responsive to texts, and they left the property way better than they found it. Overall, Level Up Construction took a bad situation and helped to make it manageable. What started as a simple routine service call under my HSP membership turned into a high-pressure sales situation. Shortly after the technician visit, a salesperson arrived and quoted me nearly $20,000 for what was described as a “top-of-the-line” system — including $2,400 for a new water heater, supposedly with HSP discounts. During the signing, the salesperson instructed me to rush through the “quality control” call and falsely confirm I had reviewed multiple system options. I was only given one option, with no effort made to provide alternatives. I have also since requested a copy of the QA recording and been completely ignored. After installation, I discovered they had left my 1990s humidifier connected to this brand-new system. I was never told this would not be replaced and was later informed I’d need to pay another $784 (and at different times $500 and $1,500) to fix it. These inconsistent and shifting quotes are deceptive. After consulting multiple licensed HVAC professionals, I confirmed the total price was $6,000–$7,000 higher than comparable systems. The equipment sold to me is not top-of-the-line by any reasonable standard. I requested an itemized breakdown of costs and have been ignored entirely. To make matters worse, the system failed inspection by MUD utilities and was declared unsafe, leaving my home without gas service, hot water, or laundry for days.
