"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

"Greg, Alex, Carly, Dillon, and John were all so amazingly helpful! My husband and I have met each of them individually and worked with them on different aspects of our home. We started out with a design they had on their website, I changed so many features of the design that they decided to start our home design from scratch. We tweaked the design for several months, as we were awaiting the lumber prices to drop. Greg had several pieces of advice and ideas for our design. Once we broke ground on the house, things ran fairly smoothly! We were out on our lot often meeting the contracted workers and checking out all of their progress. There were times when we saw items we wanted to change, such as raising beams, centering items instead of having them offset, adding a door to a specific area, and added a wrap around sidewalk. No matter what the change was Greg and Alex were on top of the CAD drawings to show us, and they implemented each item without complaints or hassle. John and Dillon were always available for our random requests and helping with various projects. Carly came into the house and cleaned everything so that the house was picture perfect for move in. After the build was complete we asked to keep the dumpsters for our boxes. Alex and Greg came out to the house on a regular basis to assess the foundation, ask about any items we may have needed addressed since moving in, and were willing to make change orders to items well after the move in date. My husband shattered a large window while doing yard work, we contacted Alex who assisted in getting us the window company's information. Alex and Greg came out to assess the basement when our washing machine pipe loosened and it appeared to be raining in our storage room (our fault, not theirs). We also had some settling where our septic pipes were dug, which required some concrete replacement. Alex and Greg came out to the house, assessed the situation, had the old concrete removed, the settling filled in, and new concrete was poured without issue. We have recommended Banyan Homes and this wonderful crew to coworkers, friends, and even to our parents for their kitchen renovation. Today, Greg and Alex dropped off a house warming gift and we showed them our updated seating in our theatre room. It has been just shy of a year since we moved into our house and they continue to be available for us if we should need anything. We were skeptical about Banyan at first due to a lack of reviews, but ultimately decided to take a chance with them. They did not disappoint. Yes, there were hiccups along the way, there always are. However, every item we asked to be addressed they addressed with a smile on their face and in as timely as a manor as circumstances allowed for. We would absolutely build with them again, if they hadn't already built our forever home! We cannot thank them enough, our house feels like home! Thank you!!"

Home Building questions, answered by experts

Renovating or remodeling an existing structure is usually less expensive than the cost to build a new house. That’s because you can save on the costs of new building materials, laying a foundation, framing the entire building, and installing new materials and utilities throughout the house. However, if a home is in very poor condition or is incredibly old, you could spend more on upgrades and restoration compared to building from scratch.

Whether a prefab home is worth it or not will depend on your personal needs and preferences. Overall, prefab homes tend to cost less than traditional homes, although they also tend to have lower resale values. Another thing to consider is that prefab homes usually last 50 to 60 years or longer, while traditional homes last 50 to 100 years or more.

Modular homes last an average of between 50 and 75 years, and high-quality modular homes can last for 100 years with proper maintenance. For comparison, a standard home lasts 50 to 100 years and can push to 150 or longer with good maintenance. Modular homes provide better long-term value in that they are significantly more affordable and can last almost as long, but some buyers are wary of modular home longevity, so the actual value if you sell could be lower.

Buying a house is easier than building one from scratch. Buying an existing home is almost always faster, even if you need to make renovations once you move in. When you hire the right team to build a home, they will simplify the design and build phases so that there is little guesswork throughout the process, but building new construction will almost always take longer than buying an existing home.

Framing is often the most expensive phase of building a house because it’s time-consuming and requires a lot of materials. It costs between $20,000 and $50,000 on average, depending on materials and labor costs. Before construction begins, it’s possible that purchasing land is the priciest step in the process. Some plots of land sell for $3,000, while others cost upwards of $150,000.
