What is a home Inspection? A home inspection is a non-invasive, visual examination of the accessible areas of a residential property (as delineated below), performed for a fee, which is designed to identify defects within specific systems and components defined by these Standards that are both observed and deemed material by the inspector. The scope of work may be modified by the Client and Inspector prior to the inspection process. I.The general home inspection is based on the observations made on the date of the inspection, and not a prediction of future conditions. II.The general home inspection will not reveal every issue that exists or ever could exist, but only those material defects observed on the date of the inspection. Areas inspected in a general home inspection: 1. Roof 2. Exterior 3. Basement, Foundation, Crawlspace & Structure 4. Heating 5. Cooling 6. Plumbing 7. Electrical 8. Fireplace 9. Attic, Insulation & Ventilation 10. Doors, Windows & Interior From International Standards of Practice for Performing a General Home Inspection - InterNACHI http://www.nachi.org/sop.htm#ixzz2SBGOp2QK My Promise to You Choosing the right home inspector can be difficult. Unlike most professionals, you probably will not get to meet me until after you hire me. Furthermore, different inspectors have varying qualifications, equipment, experience, reporting methods and yes, different pricing. One thing for sure is that a home inspection requires work, a lot of work. Ultimately a thorough inspection depends heavily on the individual inspector's own effort. If you honor me by permitting me to inspect your new home, I guarantee that I will give you my very best effort. This I promise you. "I had a bad computer board in my oven. they said they would not cover it because they found a roach. This is Florida we have some roaches. i do not have a bug problem. It has nothing to do with a bad computer board. This company looks for a way to deny claims. i had one other claim and they tried to deny it as well. Save yourself some agravation and stay away. They must post their own positive reviews. They took my $65.00 fee and did nothing"

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

Yes, suggesting repairs, gutter cleaning, and sealing as needed.

Homeowners usually do not have to update existing systems unless they are doing significant renovations. Consult your local building codes or ask a knowledgeable local contractor for the details.

Pipes should be inspected regularly so you can catch any red flags early on. Common issues that you might run into with your pipes include clogs, damage like cracks and leaks, corrosion, or other signs of wear. When you stay on top of an inspection schedule, you'll avoid costly problems like burst pipes.

There are many things to look for when buying a brick house. Here are some of the key things you should pay close attention to.

  • Lintels: Look for cracks, holes, displacement, or corrosion

  • Mortar: Check to see if the mortar is old and crumbling, in need of repointing, or new. Also check to see if the mortar has a professional finish.

  • Walls: Check along each side of the house. If a wall is bowing outward, this indicates a severe issue such as foundation damage or that the walls are ready to fall.

  • Cracks: If there are stair step cracks in the brickwork, this indicates an unstable foundation.

It is not safe to live in a house with smoke damage—even minor smoke damage can lead to long-term health hazards and structural risks. Smoke smells and residue contain particulates and chemical compounds that are dangerous to breathe in and can damage your belongings and your home’s structural materials. Have a trained professional assess your home after a fire to determine when it’s safe to return.
