"I want to start by saying 'Thank you so much Ramon and Celeste! You both Rock! I had a water leak in my bedroom closet, for unknown how long, that had created water damage and mold at one end of closet. I didn't know who I should call. Even thought about learning thru YouTube, watching DIY videos, to do the repair myself. The more I thought about doing that, I didn't feel I was confident enough to try. So, I decided to get some estimates from Angi's, as I had done that previously, for fusebox upgrade. I have to say, RG Drywall LLC, was one of the contractors that was referred to me thru Angi's and I decided to hire them, as not only was the estimate very reasonable compared to the other 2 companies that came, but they showed professionalism and respect, they were extremely nice and a pleasure to do business with. I won't hesitate to refer them to anyone. Both family, friends, and people I don't know. Just call them. You won't regret it."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

The most affordable way to insulate behind unfinished walls is to install fiberglass batts or rolls. These total around $0.75 per linear foot, with the width matching the gaps between standard studs perfectly. However, it’s important to consider the R-value of your insulation and the climate in your area, as fiberglass insulation isn’t the best in terms of preventing heat transfer. Plus, the most affordable option may cost more on electricity bills over time. The most affordable way to insulate behind finished walls is to leave them up and use blown-in insulation to avoid drywall replacement.

The ideal temperature for your garage in the winter is between 40 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Maintaining a minimum temperature of at least 40 to 50 degrees is crucial to prevent pipes, liquids, and other items from freezing. Low temperatures can also drain your car battery, so keeping the garage stable is vital for your vehicle. While the lower end of the range protects your belongings, the higher end is based on your personal preference for a comfortable space. If you struggle to keep the temperature from dropping below 40 degrees, consider installing a garage heater.

If you’re using faced insulation with paper, face the paper toward the inside of the room during the installation process.

A good way to remember this is that the paper should face the “warm side” as it’s the vapor barrier, meaning it should face toward where the heat will be coming from.

Mineral wool has an excellent life expectancy of up to 50 years, provided it's kept dry and free of pests. Compared to fiberglass, with a life span of 20 to 30 years, mineral wool stacks up well for long-term cost savings. Sheep wool maintains a similar life span to fiberglass, while estimates for hemp wool insulation life expectancies are all over the board, ranging anywhere from 20 to 100 years.

The thickness of floor insulation will depend on the R-value you plan to achieve. R-value varies on the type of material as well as its thickness and density. Insulation materials with low R-values can be layered to match the value of denser materials. As long as your floor insulation is packed tightly, seals the area from drafts, and doesn’t prevent ventilation, it can be as thick (or thin) as you need.
