Customers say: Quality work

"Steve at A&A was great to work with. He and his crew built a retaining wall around my patio and landscaped the perimeter. He always kept us up to date on the progress of the project by always staying in communication with us. He was the only one to provide an itemized quote so it was very easy for us to understand what we were paying for. His pricing was very fair and he was honest and knowledgeable about what he was working with. He was able to take my concept on paper to a reality. When it came time to break ground, the crew worked quickly and efficiently. They all cleaned up after themselves and completed the job in the time I expected. They even mulched my front yard with the leftovers which was an added bonus and a great surprise! I would highly recommend A&A to anyone looking for landscaping services. I would definitely use them on my next project. Great job guys!!!"

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Asphalt, which is stone mixed with tar, is the most common material for outdoor basketball courts because it’s so sturdy and versatile. However, you don't have to use it: another option is polymeric rubber, which has shock pads that can prevent injury. This option is a little more expensive, ranging between $16 and $25 per square foot.

Materials used for indoor basketball courts, such as hardwoods, aren’t really an option outdoors.

If your driveway is cracked, you can repave it with a process called asphalt overlay. Overlay is more cost-effective than a full replacement but is better suited for minor cracks and issues. If you have major cracks or other problems like water pooling, asphalt overlay isn’t your best bet. Plus, paving over a cracked driveway only extends the lifetime by about 10 years, whereas replacing it would start the clock over completely to give you up to 30 years.

While water-related pressure caused by poor drainage is one common cause of paver cracking, other factors can include ground movement beneath pavers, heavy loads and wear and tear over the pavers, and climates with constant freeze-thaw cycles. In general, pavers should be resealed every three to five years to prevent cracking.

Decomposed granite and caliche can both harden into a solid surface using a plate compactor. However, due to decomposed granite’s fine particles, it’s not suitable for driveway surfaces. Some homeowners use pea gravel mixed with a gravel-binding resin to bind the loose stones and create a solid surface that won’t shift like loose gravel.

Paver driveways are durable and aesthetically pleasing, but they do have a few cons. For instance, paver driveways are often more expensive than asphalt and concrete driveways. They also make it easier for weeds to grow where the separate pavers meet up. They may also be more likely to settle over time.
