"Late Spring, early Sumner is a busy time, I understand. No work was performed because it took several days before I got a response. I would have expected a little more professional communication within 1-2 business days. I refunded the deal and arranged to have the work done by another contractor. The point here is that it is better to respond quickly and set expectations about work date availability that have the person buying the deal waiting for more than a week for a response."

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

It is not advisable to use salt on your roof to prevent or remove ice dams. It’s not only mostly ineffective but can also cause serious damage to your roof itself. Salt can rust metal, damage masonry, pit shingles, and cause runoff that’s damaging to plants and animals.

The fastest and most effective way to remove snow from a driveway is by using a powerful snow blower, such as a two- or three-stage model, which can clear the area in minutes. Other helpful options include a snow thrower, a wheelbarrow plow, and even a leaf blower for lighter snow. If you need immediate help, consider hiring a professional snow removal company to take care of it for you.

Some commercial services use sand when clearing ice, but that’s to add instant traction, not to melt the ice. While you can scatter kitty litter, sand, or similar substances on steps, paths, or porches to improve safety during icy conditions, they won’t help melt hardened ice. Rely on salt or other de-icing methods to fully melt away stubborn ice.

Snow removal services cost between $50 and $200, depending on the type and size of the job. Ice-melting services are often offered alongside snow removal and other winter maintenance scheduling. You can contact a local snow removal service to ask about rates in your area, and if they offer residential removal services.

Leaving a significant amount of snow on your roof can be risky. Most roofs are designed to handle about 20 pounds per square foot of snow, but exceeding this limit can lead to a roof collapse. A collapse can cause severe damage to your home and belongings and poses a physical danger to anyone inside. Furthermore, heavy snow accumulation increases the risk of ice dams, which can cause leaks and water damage to your roof, attic, and interior walls.
