Small jobs welcome

"I had to point out areas where dead bugs lay in the tracks of the window frame. Suggested that Mr. Lane carry Qtips or some other means of reaching into tight corners and tracks. I did some of this cleaning myself as he did other spots that were overlooked. He told it "wouldn't be perfect" which I expect these windows aren't the best but that reasoning doesn't work when there is obvious debris still in the windows. I expect the glass clean, which he did and did very well but also a level of cleaning of the tracks around the window. Mr. Lane was amenable to addressing my concerns. He's very courteous and a hard worker."

Windows questions, answered by experts

Mulled windows are often more expensive than standalone windows. However, this is mostly because mulled windows tend to be larger than standard windows, meaning they require more materials and labor to manufacture and install, both of which drive up the cost. If mulled windows take up the same square footage as separate windows, they should cost about the same unless you need to reinforce your exterior wall to support the larger wall opening.

Windows last between 15 and 30 years on average. The glass tends to last for around 20 years, while the frames last up to 50 years. This varies by the type of window frame material, glass quality, location, and level of maintenance. Wood frames have the shortest lifespan and require repainting or resealing every couple of years, while fiberglass has one of the longest lifespans.

Yes, selecting double glazing or low-E coatings to reduce energy costs.

Actually, condensation can mean that your windows are more energy efficient because the seal keeps cold air out and warm air in. In some cases, windows with poor seals can lead to more condensation, but they may allow the cold and warm air to mix and reduce condensation. If you’re worried about whether or not your windows are properly insulated, have a pro assess them.

Yes, storm windows should be tempered. According to the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, tempered glass is stronger and can withstand temperatures higher than laminated glass. Tempered glass is important for storm windows because it protects against outside elements and household accidents by not producing sharp, jagged pieces when it breaks or shatters.
