"Forrest and his crew did a magnificent job with our deck replacement project. Ragsdale Home Services is easy to work with, they are prompt, excellent craftsmen, and they clean up each day after work. We would hire them again for any other projects that we have."

"These guys showed up 8am every morning and worked past 6pm for two working weeks. That's rare to see. Most builders show up infrequently and leave stuff unfinished for days and days. That nightmare didn't happen here. The estimate was adhered to. We didn't have any cost overruns. I have only one bathroom in the house and they had to accommodate that, which they did by working quickly. The bathroom looks great. Workmanship is what I had anticipated. These guys have a lot of skills and can do everything: electrical, plumbing, tiling, construction, etc. These days it's hard to find honest, respectful, hard working people who will do what they can to please the homeowner, so I was happy to find this company. I got nowhere with the big box stores or fancy bathroom remodelling places which couldn't be bothered with my small bathroom and/or came up with outrageous estimates and unacceptable time frames. Mr. Lockhart was easy to work with and turned out to be very reliable."

"LV Building Solutions did a fantastic job building a screened in porch on my deck. I couldn’t be happier! Benito provided options and was creative in making this project the best end result for me. He was easy to communicate with and was professional, timely and his price was fair. I would highly recommend him and would absolutely use him again!"

"It was pleasure working with Bala. All the steps including providing a competetive quote, explaining how he planned to go about the project and giving us updates of the project as it progressed, he was very professional and went above and beyond our expectations. Out new deck came out beautiful, even better than the original deck built by our builder."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Removing a load-bearing wall is best handled by professionals. However, if you have the skill set and decide to DIY the project, you will still need at least one additional person to assist you. Aside from helping with demolition, you'll need another hand to install the new support beam.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

Costs depend on desk size, labor, included features like drawers or motorized height adjustments, and required wall anchoring.

Balcony construction or replacement typically requires a building permit from your local permitting authority. Safety and building integrity are the main reasons for the need to obtain a permit and the subsequent inspections. In some cases, especially cantilevered balconies, your municipality may also require the oversight and signature of a structural engineer.

Joists do distribute their load to beams, but they don’t sit on top of the beams. Instead, home builders nail or screw the joists directly to the beams such that the end of the joist butts up against the edge of the beam. Beams can sit on other beams for support, but you’ll never see a joist sitting on top of a beam or another joist.
