"What a pleasure working with Ragsdale Home Services. They responded very quickly, when I reached out to request a quote. Forrest responded timely to all my questions and a quick turn around as I changed and revamped my design. Forrest and his team worked diligently to complete my project and were always on the job early and finished in the timeframe promised. Very professional. My deck turned out even better than I could have imagined. Friends and family love it. I would absolutely recommend this company! What a pleasure to work with these craftsmen."

Small jobs welcome

"I met with Nicole and absolutely knew she was the one to get it done! She was very professional and yet so laid back but her attention to detail was great. I had a lot of projects for her to do....Pressure Wash Deck and my back porch, Paint and Seal the deck, replace rotten wood, new gutters, installed new ceiling lights, adjusted my fan, reversed my attic stairs, mount my TV, trimmed doors and put new door knobs on. She and Talib were on time, very knowledgeable and ready to work and boy did they!! I was very pleased with everything that they did and will be calling again for additional projects. Thank you Nicole and Talib!! They are such a breath of fresh air!!"

Customers say: True professional

"Mark and his employees were very professional. Mark was able to bring my ideas to life when building an interior wall inside my store. The final product exceeded all of my expectations. I have since hired Mark to expand my office, change out light fixtures and replace my hot water heater. He was able to work around my store hours to ensure the safety of my customers and staff. All work was completed in a timely manner. I will continue to hire Mark for all of my projects."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

To calculate the number of linear feet of baseboard you’ll need, measure the length of each wall of the room you’re installing them in as close to the floor as possible, rounding up to the next full linear foot. If it’s your first DIY molding job, having a few extra feet on hand for miscuts is a good idea.

When building a house, it is customary to use 16d nails that measure 3 1/2 inches in length to construct the frame. These nails are crucial in providing the necessary support and stability for structural elements like joists and studs, which ensures a sturdy framework.

Yes, a 2x6 should hold a porch swing and safely support the load. A smaller joist runs the risk of it not offering enough support for the swing. If you have a joist smaller than 2x6, add additional bolstering support.

Yes, professional installations include reinforced corner posts to ensure durability.

Most Cape Cod houses are two stories tall at the peak, although they’re considered one-and-a-half stories tall because the steep roof pitch cuts off a portion of the living space on the second story. Unless you raise the roof on your Cape Cod house to add a dormer, the interior rooms upstairs will lose some usable living space to the sloped ceilings.
