"Overall the service was good. Our deck and porch look much better. We had some areas where stain overspray needed cleaning. It was a bit difficult getting them back out to do the clean up. Communication could have been more timely on the follow-up cleaning."

"Chris was great! He gave me a clear estimate of when he would arrive and the cost of the job, explained what he was going to do and did the job. It took maybe one hour and the house looks fabulous! Also, I didn't hire him to clean my windows but I removed the screens before he washed the house and I got the added benefit of a wash down of the outside of the windows and exterior window sills. I'm happy!"

"Aaron removed ceiling light and installed our ceiling fan with light/remote. He was responsive and very professional. Aaron completed the installation and made sure we were pleased. Aaron even took the time to give us estimates on a few other projects that we have in mind. I definitely will recommend Aaron to others. We will hire him for our other projects. Thank you so much Aaron for your excellent service!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Yes, deck footings typically require an inspection before laying down concrete. While not all local building codes require footing inspection, proper placement ensures a safe and structurally sound deck. An inspector will verify that the deck can adequately hold what you put on top of it., and that the footings have been dug to the correct dimensions.

Composite decking requires a solid foundation or substructure for support. This base is typically a frame composed of posts, beams, joists, and footings. The frame can be built from various materials, such as composite, plastic, timber, or metal, depending on your budget, deck type, and environmental conditions. For maximum stability, a professional deck builder may recommend installing this frame on top of a solid concrete base. It is best to discuss the most suitable substructure design and materials for your specific project with a professional.

When staining a deck, don’t skip surface prep, avoid staining damp or dirty boards, and don’t apply stain in extreme heat, cold, or wet conditions. Never overload the wood with a stain, as too much can cause tackiness or peeling. Also, don’t forget to test a small area first to ensure the color and finish look right.

Whether you need a permit depends on the deck design and local regulations. Most areas mandate a building permit if the deck is over a specific height or if it's attached to a pre-existing structure. Shorter, freestanding decks may not require a permit, but you should check with local zoning ordinances and your homeowners association for specifics.

When installing deck boards, screws are generally a better option than nails. Screws offer superior holding strength over time, keeping the boards securely in place. In contrast, nails are more likely to pop out, which can create a tripping hazard. While you can use either, we recommend using 3-inch galvanized deck screws. To minimize the risk of cracking the wood, it's a good practice to drill small pilot holes before driving the screws into the deck joists.
