"It went well! We regularly get firewood delivered, and he responds pretty quickly and usually is available to deliver pretty quickly too. We had him remove a couple old trees in the yard, and one of the branches fell on some wood steps and broke them. He quickly admitted what happened and replaced what was broken. I’m sure now the part that he replaced is the strongest section of that staircase. Overall very pleased with the work he’s done for us, as well as his kindness, and honesty."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Quartzite is more expensive than granite, largely because of its rarity. Granite is naturally more common. A granite slab generally costs $40 to $60 per square foot (excluding super-rare types), while quartzite slabs cost anywhere from $50 to $150 per square foot.

With both materials, it’s usually more affordable to purchase stones that are readily available in your location. You may need to import other stones, which come at a higher cost.

A countertop is a broad term that applies to multiple rooms in the house, like kitchens and bathrooms. Meanwhile, a vanity top is specifically associated with bathroom cabinets. In short, all vanity tops are countertops, but not all countertops are vanity tops. When discussing a bathroom, the phrases “countertop” and “vanity top” are used interchangeably.

Undermount sinks have clips that attach to the countertop, but they have pros and cons. They are heavier than drop-in sinks, so they only work with sturdy countertops like natural stone and are a more expensive option. You might need someone to help you install the sink, depending on its weight.

Marble countertops don’t necessarily crack easily. However, they are more susceptible to damage than some other types of countertops. For example, they can develop etching from acidic liquids, such as lemon or tomato juice. Marble can also chip at the edges if you drop a heavy pan. A faux marble countertop isn’t as delicate as the real deal (depending on the material you’re painting over), but it can still get scratched if you’re not careful. Use hot pads and cutting boards to protect the countertop.

Installing new kitchen countertops costs $1,850 to $4,450, with an average price of $3,140. Some materials, like marble and granite, are more expensive than others. Additionally, the size of the countertop impacts the overall price. Labor accounts for 10% to 20% of the overall project cost. Add-ons, like edging and corner treatments, also increase the cost.
