"Diego and his crew did an amazing job. They were finished in 2 days painting the interior of our home. It is beautiful. We couldn’t be happier. We have shared his contact with our entire neighborhood where the new homes were all done with cheap, flat, unwashable paint. Very pleased."

Small jobs welcome

"Very professional, focused on the project of painting interior kitchen and cabinets, dining room, living room, split foyer with staircases, hall, master bedroom. Courteous crew of men who really know how to paint and do a good and quick job. He also patched some settling places on ceiling and walls before painting as well as filled any nail holes I had left from previous wall hangings. Will request work from Mr. Strickland again. Great job."

Small jobs welcome

"I hired JS Home Improvement to finish my basement. They quoted me a competitive price and showed up every day on time, and worked sometimes 12 hours a day. Each day I was told what they would work on, how long it would take, and what time they would arrive the following day. I always knew what was going on and not once did they ever leave me to go work on another job. They offered suggestions that I hadn't considered and quoted me the price for it. The price I paid was exactly what was I quoted. The details are incredible. The framing, the new wall, the ceiling, and the painting was all impeccably done. They cleaned up the extra supplies that were no longer needed every day, and did a thorough clean once the project was completed. Please do yourself a favor if you live in Wake County, call Jose. He's amazing, honest, has an incredible work ethic and is extremely knowledgable at what he does. I already have a new list of things for them to work on once time and budget permit. I'm so glad I chose JS Home Improvement over any other company who bid my project. The reason I am his first reviewer is because he has recently gone into business for himself, but he has 20 years of experience. I wish I could write another review, because I certainly would."

Interior Painting questions, answered by experts

With patience, you can often save a dried paintbrush. Soak the bristles overnight and clean the brush as you would any other time. You'll likely have to repeat the cleaning steps, including soaking, more than once.

You can sand paint off a wall. However, it's difficult and time-consuming. Depending on why you wish to remove the paint, there are simpler ways to achieve similar results. Scraping off any loose paint and applying a skim coat is the most common way to hide a damaged wall or paint job.

While the EPA provides guidelines for homeowners to perform DIY lead paint removal, it is a risky process and generally not recommended due to serious health risks and strict regulatory requirements. The process requires precise safety precautions, such as wearing a respirator and protective eyeglasses, creating sealed exits, and using a HEPA vacuum for cleanup. To ensure the job is done safely, effectively, and in compliance with regulations, it is highly recommended to hire a professional lead abatement company. Certified professionals have the necessary training, experience, and specialized equipment (like chemical strippers and HEPA vacuums) to handle and dispose of hazardous materials safely.

If you recently splashed paint on the wrong area of a wooden object, remove it with a solvent or caustic paint stripper. Some paint that has yet to dry may be removable by hand with coarse sandpaper or a plastic scraper. Another trick for removing dried-on paint is rubbing a dab of nail polish remover on the paint to remove it, but avoid touching the bare wood surface.

Soot can be harder to remove compared to other types of stains given its acidic nature. It can also cause underlying paint to peel off during the cleaning process. If your soot issue is a result of smoke damage, it’s recommended you call a pro to help remove it versus doing it yourself.
