"I had been considering regular slab granite countertops to dress up our kitchen and get the house ready to sell, then met with the owner of the shop in Morrisville, who came out and gave me lots of great information that I hadn't gotten anywhere else, such as the weight of slab granite, its relative brittleness, and risk that if something chips or stains one part, there's not much you can do to fix it other than replace the whole slab.
For those reasons, plus a deal I got through Angie's List, I went with Granite Transformations, and I'm extremely happy with the results. Not having the kitchen torn apart for two days, and having a great-looking result that's not going to put extra strain on cabinets that weren't originally built to hold slab granite, plus the better durability of these tops over slab granite, and the lifetime warranty on these, I would definitely consider doing this again for future houses.
They did have to come back out a week after to re-caulk the sink as the caulk didn't dry (in over a day) before it got wet, and so wouldn't set up. I'm noticing some whitening of caulk next to the sink at the bottom of the backsplash as well, so I don't know if the caulk just wasn't a good bottle or what. I would recommend that if they don't cover it with some good painter's tape, that you do after it's been drying for a day, just to protect it from getting wet.

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

The water supply lines run underneath the bathtub. These two pipes deliver cold and hot water to the bathtub—the cold water comes from the main water supply, and the hot water comes from the water heater. The pipes are made from copper, cream-colored plastic CPVC, or red and blue PEX tubing.

Fiberglass tubs last between 10 and 15 years or more if they’re well-maintained. Proper care will help them last as long as possible. However, fiberglass bathtubs are prone to cracking, fading, and scratches over time. Bathtub installation by a plumber is one of the best ways to ensure your tub has the right support to last its full lifespan.

You should consider replacing your bathtub if the tub—or any potential refinishing—is older than about 20 years old. However, acrylic and fiberglass bathtubs have a shorter lifespan (about 10 to 15 years). You may decide to replace your bathtub sooner if there are stains or mold you can’t get rid of, no matter how much you clean it, or if you find leaks and cracks that could lead to costly water damage.

Of the two most common and affordable bathtub materials, acrylic is notably better. Though fiberglass is cheaper, it is also more prone to scratching, chipping, fading, and cracking. Acrylic holds up better to wear and tear, cleaning, and sun exposure; the slight cost increase is usually worth the increased longevity.

The impact of a walk-in tub on home value depends on various factors, including market demand, demographic preferences, and overall home features. While some buyers may view it as a desirable accessibility feature, others might see it as a niche amenity, potentially limiting the pool of interested buyers. However, it could add value if the walk-in tub meets specific needs or enhances the property's appeal to a target demographic. Ultimately, its effect on home value varies case by case, with factors like installation quality, design, and neighborhood trends playing roles in determining its impact.
