"

My water heater went out nearly two weeks ago the night before we took a week long trip.  Since we had another place to take showers, we got the company  we use for other ac/heating service to shut down the water heater and also got a proposal from them which was around $2200 for a water heater of the exact make (State) as the one which went bad.

After reading some water heater reviews, we decided we'd prefer a Rheem, so didn't use the first service provider.

We got a quote from another plumbing co which was roughly the same (only about $150 more) as the Water Heater Experts quote, but saw in Angie's List that they only had a "B" rating.

Seeing that Water Heater Experts had an "A" rating and specialized in water heaters, I called them and discussed our needs with them to see what they had to say.

Unlike the other plumbing company, they did not try to "upsell" me in any way.  In fact, they did more of a "downsell" and probably lost out on what would have been a few quick "sucker" bucks (not really, I'm not that gullible).

Anyway, from my discussions with both the boss and the installer, I decided to just get the basics done and see how well this higher rated Rheem water heater performs.  Their labor guarantee made that a comfortable decision.

Also, I learned from them that a few simple things like regularly draining the water heater once a year or so could prolong the life of the water heater (and that the problem isn't necessarily a bad water supply, as another plumbing co tried to sell).

My old "State" brand heater started leaking after 8 years use.  Oddly enough, though, Water Heater Experts told me that my old water heater was actually BUILT much longer ago  and showed me how to determine this based on model/serial numbers.

Since I have rental property with the identical brand (only 40 gal instead of 50), I checked and found that it is also MUCH OLDER than I had thought.

I'm planning to drain that tank soon to see what kind of goo comes out.

Great service, good advice, good prices, and a better warranty on labor than the other guys I checked.

And if I ever need a replacement (maybe for the rental), I'm DEFINITELY calling the Water Heater Experts AGAIN.

"I had heard good things about Alpine and decided to give them a try.  I called right before lunch and asked if they could send someone out to get my air conditioning working.  Alpine was willing to accommodate my schedule on a work day and showed up on time.  Met with Ricky and explained the situation.  Prior to coming inside, he put on some little booties so as not to bring in any unwanted dirt or dust.  He evaluated the situation and explained that the drain line was stopped up and that the aux drain pan had water in it which shutdown the system.  Ricky cleared the line and removed the water from the pan so that the float switch would reset.  Shortly thereafter, the AC was running again and starting to cool off the house.

From the initial phone call to the dispatcher to the service to the cost, and emailed receipt, I was completely satisfied.  I would highly recommend Alpine HVAC Services to my friends and others.

"Were very responsive during the sale and install.  Mike came on time (actually a little early).  Checked the water heater, and I decided to replace rather than repair as it was 8 years old.  He left to purchase the water heater and returned to install.  I had questions about why it was not energy star.  He called his boss, and he told me water heaters are not rated that way.  Mike went ahead with the install and did a neat job.  He forgot the expansion tank, and was to come back a few days later to put it on.  I was not there during that install.  It looked very sloppily done, and like it could fall off.  I sent 2 e-mails to the owner asking about this install.  I have not heard one word from them since the sale.

"We had concerns with our air quality and especially mold. Mr. Lindsay came out - one of the few who responded, and when I say responded - it was as if I was texting with someone - quick answers, no flip flopping - straight up and honest. He came out - found our issues, recommended what was needed and nothing more while also informing us how to take care of some things (outside this scope of work) in a cost effective and proper method. When we were cleaning out the crawl space I noticed the water heater was leaking. One message to Mr. Lindsay and he was able to fit that into the effort at an awesome price! They showed up exactly on time - took the exact amount of time he stated initially and put everything back the way it was when completed. His crew was courteous and professional as was he. Mr. Lindsay didn't rush us at all and spent as much time as we needed to discuss anything we brought up - from shower replacement to AC units - anything at all he gave us the time. We have a few older pets with special needs, his understanding and compassion when we expressed our concerns with their well being was a breath of fresh air (pun intended). I had given up on some of the local folks after the years of getting messed over - Mr Lindsay restored my hope and left us feeling safer and extremely satisfied. I will definitely call him first for anything I have a need for in the future - If I could give an extra star I would."

"Went fine; I'm writing this more than a year later--apologies--so I don't recall the name of the provider. He was very helpful with good practical pointers about longevity for the toilets (how to read flow of incoming water), frequency for flushing the hot water heater, where to turn off the water in a crisis, turning it off at the street--and what tools to have, among other tips. Also the critters to watch out for--black widows, for one, when lifting the meter cover.
Our family has used Triangle Plumbing and Backflow for a variety of tasks, from installing this current hot water heater, to replacing old high-water-usage toilets w/ Totos at my parents' home. They're close by and good to work with. They are our go-to plumber.

"It was determined that the leak was underground from the water meter to the house. They dug up the driveway and replaced the pipe. They left, and I noticed that they left the concrete and a gully."

"If I could give more stars I would!! Billy and his team are knowledgeable, fast, kind and affordable. They know what they are doing and truly care about the work that they do. We have an older home and have had quite a few plumbing issues in the past, but thanks to Appius plumbing I don't worry about ever having another plumbing issue again. They were able to replace all of our old pipes under the house, remove and install a new water heater, and fix our outside faucets in less than a day! Appius plumbing is the real deal. I promise you will not regret hiring them!"

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

While heat pump water heaters are more expensive than gas-powered water heaters, the ROI is higher for heat pump units. Not only are heat pump water heaters more energy efficient, meaning immediate savings on your energy bill, but they also last longer than traditional gas versions, meaning you won't have to buy them as often.

If you have a tank-type electric water heater, it runs regularly to keep the water at the desired temperature. If you live in a home where you don’t use much hot water, it could seem wasteful to run power to heat water that you’re using infrequently. You could save some power by using a smaller tank, insulating the tank, or lowering the temperature of the water heater.

Price variations arise from size, type (tankless or tank), efficiency grades, and installation complexity, including labor and materials.

If your water heater continues to have issues, you may wonder how long an electric water heat lasts. On average, these units last between 10 to 15 years. Following a proper maintenance schedule can help the water heater live to the end of its average lifespan or longer.

Examples include gas stoves, ovens, and water heaters. Confirm with your provider for specific items.
