"Everything went super smoothly with this project. I was able to explain what I needed and have the foreman completely understand what I wanted in terms of design. Work was executed very quickly -- took about a week due to some weather. They worked tirelessly from 8am to 4pm every day of the job. I would absolutely hire them again!"

"This was one of the best experience I've ever had with a contractor. Owner/operator/tradesman responded promptly to my request. Set up an appointment to inspect safe and work requested, called to confirm appointment half an hour before it was scheduled. Provided window of time for work to be completed, communicated openly and honestly with myself and my husband. He called again a half hour before appointment for work to be completed, and arrived on time, completed work in a timely manner and provided important information regarding condition of safe, metal testing and completeness of work. Price was extremely fair, communication, service and quality of work were above and beyond what I expected. My husband and I highly recommend Iles and Company Metalworks LLC and intend to hire them again for new projects."

"He was awesome.  He called back, but he was working in Reed field, North Carolina and he could not get to us for a couple of days.  By the time, he got to us we had already gotten the other estimates, and we were pleased with him.  Hampton guy was great.  He was really quick to get back to us, but he had other projects that he had already lined up.  The experience was very satisfactory.  He was very courteous, and prompt.  He was very honest in saying that he cannot get to us, and if we needed to have this work done now, then we need to have to get somebody else.  I appreciated that."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Removing fence posts that are set in concrete is something you can't do by hand. You will need an excavator, a strong post-puller, or a jackhammer. If you plan on recycling the concrete base, you may be able to cut the post out with a jackhammer and then set the new post in the existing base. However, it's usually better to remove both the fence post and concrete together. Due to the weight of concrete, you will need a hydraulic removal tool.

A wrought iron fence is generally considered a worthwhile investment, provided the cost fits your budget and its characteristics meet your needs. While it is an expensive material, its exceptional durability and longevity mean you can save money over time by not having to replace it.

Key benefits include:

  • Durability and Security: Wrought iron is strong and provides excellent security for your home.

  • Longevity: With proper maintenance, it can last a lifetime or longer.

  • Aesthetics: It offers a classy, timeless, and elegant look that can boost your home's curb appeal and property value, especially when complementing brick or stone architecture.

However, it's important to note that wrought iron fencing does not offer much privacy. If professionally installed and maintained, it is a sound long-term investment.

You can't build a fence against your neighbor's fence if it touches or is attached to it unless you get explicit permission from your neighbor. Most municipalities recommend building a fence about two feet away from your neighbor's fence to allow access for fence repair and mowing.

If 20% or more of your fence is damaged, pros will often tell you that it’s a better use of your money to replace the fence entirely. Severe rotting and insect damage always call for a replacement. However, if you’re just dealing with a few loose posts or a little bit of mildew growth, you can repair the fence.

Split rail fencing is a type of post and rail fencing. Other post and rail fences include corral board and post and dowel. Post and rail fencing is the term used for any type of fence with vertical posts, horizontal rails, and nothing else (specifically excluding pickets). So, technically, a split rail fence is a post and rail fence.
