You have a couple of options when it comes to lubricant. A silicone-based lubricant is a great choice because it lubricates the door and prevents rust and corrosion from forming. This type of lubricant also lasts a long time and works well in extreme cold and heat, making it ideal for garage doors. Other products you can use include lithium grease and silicone spray. Avoid using heavy, oil-based lubricants, as they can promote debris getting caught up in your garage door tracks.

While you can technically use WD-40 to lube a garage door, it is not the best option since the oil it leaves behind can attract dirt. Instead, go to the hardware store and locate a lithium- or silicone- based garage grease. You can also search for garage door lubricant online; just make sure you get one that is made with lithium or silicone.

Single and double garage doors have pros and cons, but it's all based on personal preference regarding which one is better for you. Two single garage doors give you more control over airflow entering your garage but double the system, which means double the upkeep cost.

On the other hand, two-car double garage doors are more convenient but can stop you from leaving if a piece of hardware malfunctions.

It’s best to prevent cold air from entering your garage through the space underneath the garage door. Stop cold air in its tracks by adding or replacing the weatherstripping underneath the door seal. You can also add weatherstripping along the sides and top of the garage door to prevent air leakage, and it’s a relatively easy DIY fix.

The most common garage door material is aluminum, but the best material for you depends on your budget and location. Wood is the most expensive to repair but tends to add the most curb appeal, while fiberglass or composite doors cost less to fix.

Aluminum won’t rust, so it’s a great option if you live somewhere humid or rainy. Steel doors are durable but are prone to rust. If you live somewhere with extreme temperatures, hot or cold, you might opt for fiberglass, which won’t split if the temperatures skyrocket or drop below freezing.
