"Miguel DeJesus and his team at M&C Quality Concrete, LLC arrived on time and did a fantastic job tearing out the old driveway and installing the new one. They are all pros and work together as a team to get the job done. Miguel answered all of our questions and he and his team did everything he said they were going to do. Our new driveway is beautiful and the price was reasonable. We highly recommend M&C QUALITY CONCRETE, LLC for any concrete project you may need."

"Jeff came out right away to quote the job and gave multiple options showing he is very knowledgeable of the trade. The driveway was completed perfectly and a lot faster than I expected! Driveway looked so good the neighbors even gave him a call to do theirs! Would recommend to anyone looking for concrete work!"

"I was extremely satisfied with the professionalism and hard work that Adam Canter (lead), Tim Witherspoon and Ryan Oldman displayed. They worked well together to complete the job on time and above expectations. I was impressed with the systems but even more impressed with the way it was installed, the efforts to control the dust and the cleanup that occurred throughout the job. I would suggest you ask for this crew by name. I had the work quoted by others but there was no warranty included. I think the extra money spent was well worth the quality, warranty and included follow-up inspections. The lifting peer systems installed closed the cracks in the brick veneer on the length of 3 sides of the house as planned. I observed the installation of the wall braces and could see the immediate reduction in bowing of wall. Very happy with results."

"Make sure the person giving the estimate explains exactly what it looks like. They did not bring their own water to mix the cement. We had to remove the water tank so that they could work and ended up hauling water from the neighbors house."

"Doug Courtney's quote was very realistic and he assured me he could correct the damaged area to match the original brick color and mortar shade so that there would be no evidence a problem had existed.  He was right.  He and his men were very efficient, and left our property very clean at the end of the day.  We were 100% satisfied with the job.  I highly recommend Courtney Masonry and Concrete.

"James Beverly and crew worked on 3 projects for me (1) usual repair of front steps, renewing mortar and replacing chipped bricks (2) putting in a brand new flagstone patio adjoining my driveway (3) enlarging a small paver patio in front of my utility shed. Of the 3 people I contacted on this site, James was the only one who followed up on his promise to come and look and give me an estimate. Everything was done to my satisfaction. They completed the work as promised in a professional manner and showed a very strong work ethic. I would recommend them highly."

"WOW. WHAT AN HONEST PERSON. WE HAVE A DIP IN OUR DRIVEWAYS THAT CAUSES A LARGE PUDDLE WHEN WET. WE THOUGHT WE WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE DRIVEWAY SECTION REPLACED, BUT DAVE GERBER EXPLAINED THAT THE DIP WAS THERE TO KEEP THE WATER OUT OF OUR GARAGE; AND THAT IT WOULD BE MUCH BETTER (AND LESS EXPENSIVE) TO CHANGE THE CONTOUR OF THE LAWN WHERE IT MEETS THE DRIVEWAY SO THAT THE WATER COULD RUN OFF INTO THE YARD. HE COULD HAVE REPLACED THE SECTION FOR AROUND $1200 (ANOTHER ESTIMATE), BUT INSTEAD GAVE US VALUABLE INFORMATION ABOUT CARING FOR WHAT WE HAVE. YOU CAN BE SURE WE'LL RECOMMEND GERBER CONCRETE TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS HIS SERVICES."

Concrete Walls FAQs, answered by experts

Aim for a concrete thickness of at least 4 inches for the walls of your above-ground storm shelter and 3.0 to 3.5 cubic yards of concrete for the base of your storm shelter. If you’re concerned about the thickness of your concrete while building a storm shelter, get in touch with a professional storm shelter builder to make sure your work is up to code and safe.

It’s possible to pour concrete if the temperatures are expected to dip below freezing at night, but you need to take some special precautions before you do. Most importantly, you need to make sure your concrete won’t freeze, so the best thing to do is enclose the area and heat it. You should also make sure you’re using cold-weather concrete that’s designed for pouring in cold weather. Use accelerants to help speed up the curing process and avoid cold temperatures from resulting in weak concrete.

Concrete walls last anywhere from 30 to 100 years. In many cases, concrete walls will last longer with proper support and ongoing maintenance. Some concrete foundations, for example, could last up to two centuries when properly maintained. Toward the end of its life span, however, it's critical to have a structural engineer examine the concrete wall for potential signs of decay.

Concrete houses cost 10% to 20% more to build than stick-built homes, and maintenance on home systems is more invasive and expensive due to pipes and wires being buried in concrete. Concrete homes can also look more industrial and less comfortable if you don’t cover the concrete with finishing materials. It’s also more challenging to make changes to concrete, so reframing doors and windows or building home additions will cost more. Concrete needs time to cure, too, so the timeline to build a house out of concrete is a bit longer.

In most cases, yes, masons can build concrete forms and pour concrete for a variety of home improvement projects, including foundation pouring. Some masons may prefer to focus on more aesthetic and artistic masonry work, like building retaining walls, crafting custom fireplaces, tiling, or installing stucco siding, but most also have experience pouring concrete. You can always ask your masonry contractor if they also handle poured concrete projects.
