"Their communication skills were top-notch--they clearly stated what they could do for me, what they strongly advised against (tree topping), explained their decisions and delivered in everything (and then some). - clearly explained what trees needed trimmed up, why, and what ones even needed removed - proceeded to trim accordingly, removed the two poor trees, and even trimmed one down to desired specifications to be used as a part of a fence - even swept off my roof from debris from their cutting--and even cleared some moss that was up there Exceptional service, highly recommended, 5/5 all around!"

"This company is great. They were on time to start the job. They worked carefully and cleaned up when job was completed. I was nervous about the tree removal as the tree was very large and close to the house and pergola. No problem for these guys. Also, they were the best price by far. I would absolutely recommend them."

"They did a great job! My roof looks great! Reliable and kept me well informed about everything. They kept cost in mind and cleaned up nicely after themselves. Serge even came out late to tarp the roof until it could get repaired so that I didnâ t have any further damage to the house waiting for the roof. They were very nice to work with. Great people. I canâ t say enough good things about them!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Cutting down a dead tree is always strongly advisable. Aside from being an eyesore, a dead tree can be extremely hazardous, especially when it’s near people or structures. Even if the tree isn’t near your home, it can still harbor pests and diseases that can potentially spread to nearby plants and homes.

The cost of professional tree trimming averages $460, with a typical range between $200 and $760. However, prices can be as low as $75 or as high as $1,800 depending on several factors. The size and type of the tree are major cost drivers; for example, trimming Crepe Myrtle trees costs an average of $80 to $400, while trimming giant pine trees can range from $200 to $1,800. Other factors that influence the price include the time of year, as services are often more costly in the spring. The tree's accessibility and your location also play a role, as a remote or hard-to-reach tree may increase the cost. Some professionals may offer a discount if you have multiple trees to trim.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

Trees naturally want to grow upward, so one may straighten all by itself, though this only comes into play when a tree is leaning just a small amount. For trees growing into an awkward position or those leaning heavily in one direction, the above steps are necessary to ensure the tree gets back on the right path. This also holds true for trees planted in a spot with unstable soil.

In most cases, you should not use a pruning seal on trees after trimming. Applying a sealant can interfere with the tree's natural healing process, and it does not guarantee protection from pathogens. Instead of sealing the cut, the best practice is to support the tree's natural recovery by providing it with plenty of water and a dormant-style fertilizer. However, there are exceptions. Pruning seals may be recommended for very vulnerable species, like elm trees, in areas where dangerous diseases such as Dutch elm disease are prevalent. In these specific situations, the protection offered by a sealant can outweigh its downsides. For advice tailored to your situation, especially after cutting large branches, it is best to consult a local tree trimming professional.
